No genre gravitates more towards amateur mods than sandbox. A classic example of this is the legendary GTA, which provided players with an open city with hundreds of possibilities, and in return received thousands of amateur modifications of various quality.

Step 1
Check out the GTA fan forums. There are entire sections for modders on them, where users exchange ideas and ready-made projects.
Step 2
Look for ratings. Making large, high-quality modifications is a serious and costly task. And therefore the results of the work are widely known: there are whole lists of the best among the modders. So, in Russia, Zombie Mod for San Andreas and various versions of Real Mod are very popular, which improves the graphical characteristics of the game.
Step 3
Get a gaming magazine. Today, almost every major publication is supplied with discs with additional content. On them, "selected" modifications for new products, including GTA mods, are laid out. For example, "Igromania" several times a year puts serious mods on its DVDs, adding new storylines to the game or radically changing the gameplay.
Step 4
Download the "improved" builds of the game. For the convenience of users, rip-versions of the game are regularly created, with already built-in additions. You can find them on the already mentioned fan forums, torrent trackers and in the internal resources of your provider. The main advantage of such editions is that the player does not have to install extensions on his own (and the process is sometimes quite complicated), it is enough to simply install the assembly as a regular game.
Step 5
Ask users. If you are looking for a particular mod, but do not know its name, then you should ask for help (again) on fan forums, or ask a question using special services such as "Questions. Mail" or Google Answers. The audience on such portals gathers the most diverse, and therefore the answer can be found quite quickly.
