Biography
Charlotte Mercedes McCambridge was born on March 16, 1916 in Jolit. Her parents, Marie and John, were Catholic and of Irish descent. At one time, the future actress received an excellent education, graduating from the Chicago Mandeley College.
Creative activity
Mercedes McCambridge began her career in the forties with working on the radio, soon began performing on Broadway. In the late forties, her film debut took place in the film "All the King's Men". Personal life
For her first husband, William Fifeld, Mercedes McCambridge married in 1939. From him she gave birth to a son, John Lawrence Fifeld, but they divorced in 1946.
In 1950, the actress married Canadian radio director Fletcher Markel. During this marriage, Marcedez McCambridge developed alcohol problems and was often hospitalized after long drinking bouts. In many ways, this was the reason for the divorce in 1962. She finally managed to cope with alcoholism only in 1969, after visiting the center of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Mercedes McCambridge died on March 2, 2004 at her home in La Jolla, California at the age of 87.
