Step 1
Beautiful and functional kitchen napkins for everyday use can be made from checkered linen or cotton fabric. Choose from the store a plain fabric as a tablecloth for your dining table and a contrasting plaid fabric to match in color. In order to sew 6 napkins from it, there will be half a meter left. Cut out the squares 25 x 25 cm, sew them on the sewing machine, turning the edge 0.5 cm - and the napkins are ready.
Step 2
Such napkins can also be made from plain fabrics of almost any color - from white to black. But such a napkin will look much more elegant if its edges are trimmed with thread lace 1 cm wide. The lace should be made of natural material - linen or cotton, since napkins are often washed at high temperatures. If there is no lace, it doesn't matter, just bend and hem the edges with threads to match the material, and on one of the corners with colored embroidery threads (floss) embroider a few simple flowers with leaves or the initials of family members.
Step 3
If you want to make napkins for table setting, then you can embroider them using the hemstitching technique - a beautiful and graceful type of decorative fabric decoration. This is openwork embroidery on the threads of the fabric, which are obtained by pulling out several adjacent threads. They are collected in different patterns with colored threads. Hemstitching is performed according to certain patterns shown in the figure. The edges of such napkins can not be hemmed, but simply cut straight and pull the threads out of them to get a fringe 1-1.5 cm long.
