Are you going for a picnic but find that you have no skewers? This problem can be solved quickly and inexpensively. With the help of improvised materials and ordinary tools, you can make skewers yourself.
It is necessary
- - steel wire with a diameter of at least 6 mm;
- - hammer, pliers and chisel;
- - a small anvil or iron block, as a basis for the formation of a skewer;
- - grinder or emery wheel.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a steel wire with a diameter of at least 6 mm and use a chisel with a hammer to cut 6-8 identical pieces of wire 70 cm long. Cut the wire with a chisel at an angle so that you already get a pointed end.
Step 2
Please note that it is difficult to make a skewer out of steel wire in the form in which it is supplied to the market, as it is too hard and resilient. Therefore, you need to strip these qualities off the wire. To do this, make a fire and put the cut pieces in it, the wire should turn red from the temperature. Use pliers to remove it from the fire and let it cool on its own. This will make the wire soft and pliable, making the skewer easier and faster.
Step 3
Then place the future skewers on a small anvil or iron block. Take a hammer and flatten the entire wire lengthwise, leaving the edge 10 cm intact, to give it a flat profile shape that allows the kebab to rotate while frying, eliminating the meat spinning. Do not overdo it and try to keep the same thickness 2-2.5 mm.
Step 4
After that, fold the untouched edge into a ring so that you get a kind of handle. Step back 4-5 cm from the untouched part and use pliers and your own strength to make a small spiral in half a turn.
Step 5
Make the end of the skewer pointed in order to put meat on it. To do this, use a grinder or emery wheel. The tip itself should not pierce the finger, so blunt it to avoid injury.
Step 6
Temper the finished product so that it is strong and does not bend. To do this, place homemade skewers on a fire and heat them red hot. Prepare a metal container with cold water, taking into account the possibility of full immersion of hot skewers in water and temper them.
