Wolverine claws are worn by the hero of the movie "X-Men". These claws may be needed if you want to act out a scene from this movie or appear in the form of a wolverine man at the carnival. In ancient Japan, such an item was a dangerous weapon. At the holiday, real weapons are not needed, so it is better to make claws not from metal, but from cardboard.
Preparing materials
Prepare the necessary materials and tools. For the wolverine claws, you need to find thin but stiff cardboard. You also need a piece of paper for the pattern. You still need:
- gouache;
- PVA glue;
- varnish;
- awl;
- gloves;
- wide elastic band;
- a needle;
- threads.
Making a cardboard base
Draw a pattern on paper. The pattern is a very long oval, pointed on one or both sides, something like an aster or dahlia petal. The longest axis of your oval is 15-20 centimeters - depending on whether the claws are for an adult or a child. The short axis is 3-5 cm. Transfer the pattern to cardboard and cut it out. The claw must be shaped like a boat. To do this, cut one of the sharp ends and make something like a recess. Glue the edges. You can make the same cut from the second sharp end. Make blanks for the rest of the claws. You can limit yourself to three claws for each hand, but if you are going to sew them on gloves, it is better to have claws on all fingers.
In the same way, you can make claws out of metal, but this will require a certain amount of locksmith tools. In addition, metal claws are traumatic. The ring on which the claws are attached will also be metal.
We paint, fix, varnish
Paint the nails with black gouache, let dry and cover with varnish. You can take any varnish. Nitro varnish dries the fastest, but if it is not at hand, you can even cover your nails with hair or nail varnish. Sew the claws onto the glove. The varnished cardboard with a regular needle does not pierce well, so make the holes with an awl. Sew each claw at at least three points: where one of the sharp points meets the glove, at the middle knuckle and at the end of the finger.
It is better to take threads from polyester or nylon.
Claws can be made with an elastic band. Cut a piece of wide elastic tape so long that the ring made from it fits snugly around your palm. Sew the ring and attach the claws. In this case, it is more convenient to make not five claws, but three or four. You can replace the rubber band with a cardboard ring, but this is less convenient. You can make wolverine claws without any rubber bands. To do this, you need cardboard or plastic tubes. You can take cases from old thermometers or unnecessary markers. Remove the insides of the felt-tip pens, wash the tubes well and cut into rings 2-5 cm wide. Rings made with your own hands made of dense but flexible cardboard will also do. Do the claws themselves as described above. Glue or sew them to the tubes. It is better to paint the rings in the same color as the claws.
