Watercolor is a very suitable material for painting the sky. It is transparent and makes it possible to convey subtle shades. The sky is not often one-tonne. It is different at different times of the year. To paint a sunrise or sunset sky, you can use not only blue, but also pink and yellow paint. For the winter sky, take lighter colors, for the summer - brighter. In some countries, it may even be aqua or purple.

Instructions
Step 1
Decide what time of day your drawing will be. Depending on this, choose paints. The brightness of a watercolor color is determined by the amount of water, but still try to find the colors that are closest to your intention. Keep in mind that paints in a dry drawing will appear slightly faded than when painting.
Step 2
Draw a horizon line. This can be done directly with a brush and the same paint with which you will paint the sky or what is under it. The horizon is rarely perfectly straight. This only happens when you are painting an endless field or sea. In all other cases, it is necessarily bent by something. There may be a forest on the horizon, it may be obscured by a city. Therefore, make it uneven. The location of the sheet can be anything and depends entirely on your idea. If you don't need a horizon line, sketch out the outlines of the subject that will be against the sky.
Step 3
If the sheet is large, make the initial fill with a piece of foam rubber. You can preliminarily outline the contours of the clouds. It's okay if you accidentally stain them with paint. Clouds can be of any shape, and an extra stain will not spoil the picture. Wet a foam sponge with water and moisten the entire sky.
Step 4
To paint the sky on a clear day, apply blue paint on a sponge. Make a stain on the sheet and blur it all over the space. If the sky is even blue, as happens on a fine summer day, then nothing else is needed. Let the drawing dry and, if it is too faded, apply a second coat of paint in the same way. Cloud contours can be slightly blurred or tinted with light gray or light blue.
Step 5
The dawn and sunset skies are bright, with many red and yellow spots on it. Do the initial fill in the same way using a sponge. Then paint on the brush with yellow or pink paint and blur. They can be both near the horizon and all over the sky. If you want to paint a sunset, make the brightest scarlet or orange stripe right on the horizon. Lightly paint the clouds in the same tones, but with a lighter and more washed out paint.
Step 6
When drawing the night sky, do not outline the clouds in advance. Cover the space with black or dark blue paint. This can be done even without pre-filling to make the tone thicker. Try to make the color as even as possible. The clouds are barely visible at night, so paint their outlines with barely visible silver paint. If not, make them gray. They should stand out faintly against a dark background.
Step 7
The stars in the night sky can be simply scratched out. Wait for the paint to dry, mark their places with a needle or pen. Scratch gently until white, being careful not to tear the paper.
