Editing a poem is, in fact, a continuation of the work to create it. The reason for the correction can be both a comment by one of the readers or listeners, and the author's revision of the issue under discussion.
Instructions
Step 1
Reread the poem again. Make the first corrections: add the necessary punctuation marks, correct the spelling. Inattention to these trifles indicates the carelessness and inability of the author.
In addition, when reading an illiterately written poem, the reader may form an opinion about the author as a person who does not own the subject. After all, you would not order a suit for a seamstress who does not know how to hold a needle in her hand?
Step 2
Read the poem out loud. Mark hard-to-read passages: two or more stresses in a row for no particular reason, several consonants in a row, etc. Separately highlight unjustified rhythm disturbances.
Rewrite the lines in violation of the verse size. Replace words with synonyms, swap words. Do not fill lines with additional syllables at the expense of meaningless "only", "only", "same" and other words. The genre of miniature implies the presence of meaning in each word (as opposed to, say, large lyrical digressions).
Step 3
Listen to critics. Do not take comments as a personal insult: they are just the personal opinion of one person. On top of that, you don't have to rewrite the poem if it doesn't feel bad to you. But an outside glance will find some dissonant phrases and unfortunate formulations.
Step 4
Write as much as possible. Think of it not as graphomania, but as learning: the more you write, the faster the right words and rhymes come to mind, the easier it is to find synonyms and variations. At the same time, a sense of speech develops in you: you begin to better understand vocabulary, grammar, and other subtleties of the language.
Step 5
The ability to redo poems by scrolling through a phrase in your head and finding new options is a skill that comes with experience. Authors who have been studying poetry for six months or more can edit a poem on the go without external stress. Develop in yourself the ability to instantly find synonyms and equirhythmic formulations with a similar meaning. At first, do not rush, write down your thoughts. As the skill develops, you will be able to improvise freely and without additional notes.
