It is necessary

  • - woolen yarn;
  • - knitting needles for the thickness of the yarn;
  • - scissors;
  • - a needle with a wide eyelet for closing the loops;
  • - initial knitting skills (set and closure of loops, knitting an elastic band).

Instructions

Step 1

A men's scarf is a fairly popular clothing accessory. In addition, this detail has a rich history. After all, the first men's scarf appeared about more than two millennia ago. Initially, this element of men's clothing was worn by people of high status, state nobles, and artists. In ancient Rome, scarves were worn not only around the neck, but also on the belt. In the Croatian army, a scarf denoted the rank of a soldier. Initially, these were linen shawls, which were used mainly as insignia (among the military) and simply an element of dressing. Later, several centuries later, scarves began to be used not only for beauty, but also for warmth. They began to be made from warmer materials. Scarves were tied and knitted.

Step 2

Currently, the art of weaving is not within the power of everyone, unless we are talking about industrial looms. But to knit such an element of clothing is within the power of any needlewoman, even a beginner, who wants to please her beloved with a warm product.

Step 3

The length of a man's scarf can be either long or short. It all depends on how your lover prefers to wear it. If he just puts it on under a coat or jacket, tie a short scarf. If he prefers to wrap it around his neck several times and leave the ends outside, the scarf should be at least one and a half meters long. For a short scarf, you will need about 200 g of yarn, for a long one - at least 400 g.

Step 4

The men's scarf is knitted without any special frills. For him, you can use the simplest knitting.

Naturally, a men's scarf should not be knitted with openwork knitting. It is best to use a simple elastic band for it - single or double. A single elastic is knitted like this: one front, one purl to the end of the row, the second row is purl, front (where there was a front in the first row, in the second it is knitted with a purl, and vice versa. A double elastic is knitted in the same way, but in this case two front ones are knitted, two purl loops in odd rows and purl two, knit two in even rows.

Step 5

An English elastic is also suitable for a men's scarf, it will look especially good when making a long scarf. For him, cast the required number of loops on the knitting needles, as you usually do. Knit the first row with front loops. From the second row, knit an elastic band, knitting 1 loop of the front, 1 purl, or 2 loops of the front and purl. Knit even rows according to the pattern.

Step 6

For English elastic, cast on an odd number of loops. Remove the edging, then knit the first row according to the scheme: 1 front loop, 1 yarn over, remove 1 loop untied. In this case, the thread should be behind the work. Second row: 1 yarn, 1 stitch untied, knit the stitch and yarn of the previous row together with the front one. In the third row, knit together a loop and a yarn of the second row, 1 yarn, remove 1 loop. Next, alternate rows 2 and 3.

Step 7

The men's scarf, made with a Swedish elastic band, looks interesting. This is one of the variations of the double elastic band. It fits in the following way. Knit the first row to the end of the row like this: knit two, purl two. Knit the second row with an offset of one loop. That is, if you finished the row with two front loops, then knit the second row one front, two purl, then alternate two front and two purl loops to the end of the row. Knit the third and all subsequent odd rows as the first, fourth and all subsequent even rows as the second.

Step 8

When knitting a men's scarf, you are unlikely to get by with one skein of yarn. Therefore, when you run out of another skein of yarn, you will need to connect the thread of the first ball with the thread of the second skein. For this, some needlewomen simply tie the threads into a knot and continue knitting. But with such a connection, the “tails” from the knots and the knot itself can be difficult to hide in the pattern. Therefore, it is best to connect the threads by laying them on top of each other. Then continue knitting. Try to connect the first skein to the second from the new row, not in the middle. The threads are much easier to hide in the edge loops, and the scarf will then look neater.

Step 9

Tie the scarf to the desired length. In the last row, close the loops, cut and secure the thread. A men's scarf can be without jewelry at all. But you can also make small tassels or short fringes.

Step 10

To calculate the number of loops for the required width of your scarf, run a test pattern to calculate the density of your knit. To do this, untie a square about 12x12 cm with the pattern you chose for the scarf. Wash, dry, iron lightly (best through damp gauze and count the number of loops that fit in 10 cm of knitted fabric as a sample. For example, 10 cm turns out 25 loops, 1 cm = 2.5 loops. If you need a scarf with 20 cm, which means multiply 20 by 2, 5, we get 50 loops, that is how many loops you will need to type on the knitting needles for the desired width.
