It's really hard to joke. What can I say, the ability to laugh is a whole art with its own rules. Although nothing will amuse you like an impromptu joke.
But even such a joke has its own structure. It consists of a setup (the beginning, an unfunny introductory part) and a punchline (the end, when the introduction is unexpectedly interrupted, in a funny way ending the situation outlined at the beginning). There is usually a pause before the punchline so that the listener has time to understand what you said before. In the setup, you can sometimes insert a small explanatory addition that reinforces the impression of what you are about to say at the beginning. However, never insert an explanation at the end of a joke, it only makes it unfunny.
To make the joke clear to everyone, do not choose topics for it, details that are known only to a narrow circle of people.
And even if the joke isn’t funny at all, don’t despair. Think of how to make it funnier - make a comical expression on your face or some other gag. And then not the listener will laugh, but the viewer.
