Moccasins are traditional Indian shoes. It is durable and comfortable, so many Europeans wear it with pleasure, especially after folklore clothing has become popular again. Moccasins are of two types. Some tribes made thick soles and soft upper. Other craftsmen made shoes from one soft piece of leather.
It is necessary
- - soft leather or suede for the upper;
- - thick cotton threads;
- - saddlery needle;
- - boot knife;
- - a small board;
- - cardboard;
- - graph paper;
- - pencil;
- - ruler.
Instructions
Step 1
Start making any shoe with a pattern and taking measurements. Place your foot on a piece of cardboard and trace around it. Remember to hold your pencil vertically. Cut out a pattern. Mark with numbers 1 and 2 the most prominent points of the heel and toe. Transfer the drawing to a graph paper sheet so that point 1 is at the intersection of two thick lines, and point 2 is on one of them. This will make it more convenient to make calculations. On graph paper, also mark points 1 and 2.
Step 2
Measure and record the instep of your leg. Label this distance as L. Divide this measurement in half and write it down too. Add 1, 2-1, 5 cm to half. From point 1 along a thick line, set aside on both sides distances equal to half of the distance L with an allowance added to it. Put points 3 and 4. Connect them with smooth curves to point 2.
Step 3
Measure the distance between points 1 and 2 along the contour of the sole on both sides. This can be done using a measuring tape, aligning its end with one of these points and bending strictly along the cuts. You can use strong thread or cord. Write these measurements down. Set each of them aside from point 2 along the top of the part, but on the same side of the sole on which you measured them. In this case, do not bend the thread or centimeter to point 1, but continue the line and postpone the measurement on it. One line will be longer and the other will be shorter. Put points 5 and 6. Connect them to point 1 with smooth curves. This will be the back seam.
Step 4
Find the midpoint of line 1-2. Draw a perpendicular to this point in both directions until it intersects the path. Measure this new line and find the middle of it. Put point 7. Connect it to point 1 with a straight line. Draw a perpendicular to point 7 towards the midline of the sole by 5 cm. Set point 8. Set the same segment to the other side and set point 9. Cut out the pattern of the top. Make a tongue pattern. Its width is about 6 cm, its height can be 5-6. Round its top corners.
Step 5
Move the sole pattern to rawhide, and the upper and tongue to soft. Do not forget that moccasins must be cut in mirror image. Loafers can be decorated with, for example, embroidery or webbing at the top. Do this right away because it will be very inconvenient to embroider after assembly.
Step 6
Punch holes along the edge of the sole. You can, of course, do them as you stitch, but this is not very convenient. Pierce the holes with an awl. Insert it along the edge of the sole, leaving a distance of about 0.5 cm. Take the tool to the side cut. The edge of the top need not be pierced in advance.
Step 7
Align the toe of the sole with the toe of the upper and sew the first stitch here. Both parts should be placed seamy sides to each other. Sew moccasins with waxed cotton or linen thread. You can wax it with a candle. Pierce the wax candle with a needle and pull the thread through the resulting hole.
Step 8
Sewing the moccasins from toe to heel on both sides, fasten the thread and turn the product inside out. Sew the back seam on the wrong side. Sew on the tongue, stepping back 0.5 cm from the edges of the slit on each side. Punch holes and insert lace.
