Originally designed cans for bulk products and containers for spices give the kitchen a special cozy flavor. It is not difficult to make such products, but you need to know the sequence of work and the list of required materials.
A hand-made product can serve not only as an interior decoration, but also as an excellent gift. Any jar is chosen as the basis for decoupage: glass, metal, plastic. To make a container for storing bulk products, you will need a jar with a lid (for example, from under coffee), PVA glue, acrylic paints (you can use gouache), a set of brushes, acetone, a foam sponge, paper napkins (preferably with a three-layer pattern), scissors, varnish (it is better if it is in the form of a spray).
Rinse the jar thoroughly, remove the label and wipe dry. The outside of the container must be degreased. For this, acetone and a cotton pad are used. After that, a composition is prepared that will serve as a background: PVA glue is poured into a small ceramic cup and acrylic paint or gouache is added to it. You can choose any color you like.
If napkins with a pattern are chosen for decoupage jars, the background color should be such that the pattern stands out, but does not contrast with the main color. Combinations such as brown-white, burgundy-orange, gray-coffee are suitable.
Using a brush, cover the jar and lid with the prepared composition. You can wait for the base to dry, but you can turn on the hairdryer and speed up the process. To make the base of the decoupage more durable, apply a second layer of glue diluted with paint. And again dry the jar.
Using scissors, cut out the patterns you like from the napkin. This must be done with three layers of paper at once, otherwise the edge of the cut motifs will be loose and uneven. When the pattern is ready, the two bottom layers of the napkin are removed, leaving only the colored top. The decoupage elements are ready, it remains to decide which one to stick where. You can experiment for a while, choosing the best combination of paper motifs.
With the help of patterns cut from a napkin, you need to decorate the lid of the jar. This will give the product a finished look.
Paper parts are glued to the base using PVA glue. It is important to ensure that no creases form on the napkins during use. This is quite difficult to achieve, but you need to try. If small folds remain, you should not tear off the pattern and re-glue it: the covering composition will make these shortcomings unobtrusive.
It is best to glue the paper like this: spread the base with glue, put a drawing on the jar, moisten a brush in PVA glue, and smooth out a napkin with it. The main thing in this process is not to overdo it, as thin paper can tear from overly diligent smoothing with a brush.
Since the container is intended for storing bulk products, it must be "signed". This can be done using the original frame and a piece of paper with an inscription. The frame can be made of any materials: strips of paper napkin folded in several layers, thin twigs, plastic scraps. The frame is placed in the place of the jar, which is considered the most successful for this part.
The sequence of work is as follows: cut out a small rectangle from the album sheet, sign it, stick it in the selected place of the container. Then they frame it with the details prepared for the frame. The final stage is the application of a covering layer: varnish. It is either sprayed from a can or using a brush and paint the jar, not forgetting about the lid.
