A good baseball bat on a sports store counter can cost a lot of money. If you are used to working with wood, and the desire to have a good baseball bat does not leave you, you may well try to make a bat with your own hands.

It is necessary

To make a bat, you will need a block of ash, maple or beech wood, as well as carpentry tools, furniture or yacht varnish

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, you should be aware that the size of a baseball bat is strictly limited by the rules of the game. If you are going to not only admire your bat, but also play baseball with it, then by all means observe the exact dimensions when making the bat. It should be 106.7 cm long and 7 cm in diameter.

Step 2

The first step is to buy a block of wood. This can be done in any construction market. Choose such a block so that its dimensions are several centimeters larger than the dimensions of the future bit.

Step 3

After you have bought a piece of wood, you can start cutting out a bit from it. How you will do this depends solely on your abilities and skills in working with carpentry tools. Someone will have enough of a small hatchet to give the workpiece the desired shape, while someone will use a chisel and a hammer. The main thing at this stage is to stick to the shape of the bit. Its handle should be two to three times thinner than the thickest part of the bit, at least 4 cm in length, and the edges should be rounded.

Step 4

The next step after shaping the bit is to grind it. Using sandpaper, sand the workpiece until it is perfectly smooth. You can do this both manually and with the help of power tools.

Step 5

When the bat is ready, all that remains is to varnish it. The varnish should be applied in several layers. After you have varnished the bat twice, sand it with fine sandpaper. Thus, you will smooth out the "pile" that has risen from the surface of the tree. Now you can apply one or two more layers of varnish and let it dry completely.
