Instructions
Step 1
Woodpeckers are arboreal. They have short legs, a long, sharp beak that helps them to reach insects, and a variegated color, by which the woodpecker can be unmistakably recognizable. Woodpeckers also have a long, tapered tail, which helps them to stay on the tree trunk. It is best to draw a woodpecker sitting on a trunk - in its most typical pose.
Step 2
Draw a vertical line for the trunk with a pencil. Do not forget about the topography of the bark. Then start drawing the bird. Draw a circle that will then become the head. Draw a line from this circle to the right upwards - then it will become the bird's beak. Draw an oval just below and to the right of the circle - the future body of the bird. Connect the circle and oval with two curved lines.
Step 3
Now sketch out the head and beak. Draw an elongated sharp beak around the previously outlined line, and draw a crest on the back of the head.
Step 4
While looking at the picture of the woodpecker, copy the stripes on its head. With a long, slightly curved line, mark the line of the back. Draw the belly, outline the lines of the plumage and tail.
Step 5
Draw legs with long, sharp claws - with the help of them the woodpecker is held on the tree trunk. The woodpecker clings to the bottom edge of the hole it made in the bark with its paws, so draw this hole and shade it dark.
Step 6
Now draw the tail of the woodpecker and the wing, draw the plumage with the lines. Use the eraser to remove all reference lines and those that are not too far away. Draw the outlines again with a thicker line. Use shading to mark the shadows and blend well. Draw the bark of the tree carefully.
Step 7
The most interesting thing is coloring the woodpecker. These birds have variations in color, but they are mostly black with white spots and a red top of the head. Look at some pictures of woodpeckers and choose the color option you like best.
