It continues to delight viewers for the second century, despite the fact that after the great French artist, other painters began to use this technique. Viewers inevitably ask themselves a question - and how do they do it? Meanwhile, nothing is impossible, even if you do not paint in oil, when the fog effect is achieved with the help of small strokes, but with watercolors or gouache. You can even draw fog with a colored pencil or crayons, and there are several techniques for this.

Instructions
Step 1
First, think about what you are looking at through the fog. It can be a city, a field or a forest - whatever. Fog is very rarely so thick that absolutely nothing can be seen through it. Usually, some outlines of objects can still be traced. Draw a landscape or still life using the same technique in which you are going to paint fog.
Step 2
If you draw with pencils, the easiest way to draw fog is by rubbing. Tweak the white pencil lead finely. It can even be crushed in a mortar. Using a dry brush, gently apply the powder to different areas of the design. Rub it all over the drawing. This can be done with an eraser, fine sandpaper, or even just a piece of paper. It all depends on which sheet you are drawing on and how hard your pencils are. For thick, thick paper, a skin is more suitable; on a thin sheet, it is more convenient to use an eraser. In this case, part of the drawing will also be rubbed, but in the fog all objects seem a little blurry.
Step 3
Fog in a watercolor drawing can be done in the same way as with pencils. But you can use other methods as well - for example, blurring. It must be done while the drawing is still not dry. Go over the raw watercolors with a wet, thick brush. You can add a little shade to the water - make the fog bluish or yellowish, depending on the colors in which the drawing is made.
Step 4
When painting with gouache, the mist is best done using the spray method. Dilute the thick gouache. Dip a toothbrush in it. Spray a thick layer of gouache, brushing against the edge of the ruler. Use a hard-bristled brush to keep the fog from looking like snow. Try to spray paint so that the droplets are at a short distance from each other.
Step 5
You can do it in another way. Thin the white gouache thinner to make it transparent. Use a thick soft brush to apply it to the drawing where the fog should be. This technique is a bit like a watercolor technique as it also uses transparent paint.
