A soundtrack, or soundtrack, is the musical accompaniment of any material: a computer game, a film, a cartoon, etc. Sometimes the abbreviation OST (Original Sound Track) is used instead of the term "soundtrack", denoting the original soundtrack, sold separately from the material for which it was written.
Instructions
Step 1
The domestic gaming industry appeared relatively recently. Computer games, published by Russian developers, have already been published in dozens of countries around the world, competing with the USA, Germany, and Great Britain. Some games, for example, "Cursed Lands", "Alloids", "Demiurges" are very popular in the States, Russia can rightfully be proud of them. An integral part of any computer game is its musical accompaniment, or soundtrack.
Step 2
When writing a soundtrack for a game, remember that this is not just a piece of music based on a song, create some kind of design that can emphasize the gameplay of the game. Do not overdo it, do not try to draw attention to music.
Step 3
The soundtrack must match the footage. To do this, you need to be clear about what you want out of your music. There are many factors to consider when working on the music score: try to evoke the correct associations in the gamer with the various objects of the world represented in the game.
Step 4
In computer games there is the concept of "interactivity", which is always built in different ways, so when writing a soundtrack, focus on the fact that the music is neutral, because it is often difficult to guess what the hero will do in a particular episode of the game.
Step 5
One of the main points is that the soundtrack should clearly convey the mood, and in real time. To do this, start collaborating with other game creators, starting with the development of the game. So you can get a feel for the main idea, initially supplemented by preliminary screenshots, graphic images.
Step 6
After reading the script of a computer game, draw up a design document in which you clearly write down the number of required melodies, style and their duration.
Step 7
Write the soundtrack in collaboration with the person in charge of FX sounds, i.e. creating all sorts of noises: shots, wind noise, working mechanisms. This way you will better understand when it is worth “muffling” the musical accompaniment”, for example, make the music“transparent”with the murmur of a brook. And in the presence of natural noises, for example, the howling of a blizzard, add a violin part to the music. The whistle of the wind will already be sounded by an FX specialist.
Step 8
When writing scores, the main thing is to create the right atmosphere. If it is not there, then even with good music, a full-fledged soundtrack will not work.
