Shawls, knitted from fine woolen yarn, appeared in the wardrobe of women of fashion in the 15th century. Then these were square capes, which were folded in half in the form of a triangle, put on the head and completely covered the body with them. This thing is still popular, and knitting a thin openwork scarf or shawl is an indicator of the craftsmanship of the needlewoman.

Step 1
To knit an openwork shawl, you will need fine woolen yarn (such as angora, mohair, or soft merino wool). On average, 150 grams of yarn are needed (plus or minus 50 grams, depending on the size of the product).
Step 2
Make a pattern for a scarf. It is a square with sides from 100 to 180 centimeters (smaller or larger), depending on what size product you want. As you knit, you need to apply the knitted fabric to this pattern to get an excellent result.
Step 3
Knitting of a scarf begins in different ways: from the center, from the corner or one of the sides (all this is described in the knitting pattern of a particular model). However, it is rather difficult to knit such a voluminous thing, it is much easier to do it from individual motifs, which can later be crocheted.
Step 4
Pick up a drawing. Divide the scarf pattern into squares. Tie the required number of elements (according to the diagram). Connect them together with double crochets or chains of air loops.

Very beautiful openwork shawls are obtained by knitting the canvas with the "Diamond" pattern. To do this, make a chain of air loops. In the first row, knit in single crochet stitches. In the second row, knit 2 air lifting loops, then make * yarn, insert the hook into the loop, another yarn, pull the loop, make the yarn, insert the hook into the next loop, make the yarn over, pull the loop, make the yarn over, pull through 5 loops, which are on the hook and knit 1 chain *.
