Step 1
Select a drawing. It is better if it is beautiful, but laconic. There should not be a lot of small details and complex color transitions. It is not necessary to look specifically for designs for leather applique. Look at folk ornaments, emblems, and engravings on a variety of topics. You can adapt any drawing you like, taking only its contours and the most characteristic details.
Step 2
Set the drawing to black and white and fill everything with white paint. You only need outlines. Enlarge it according to the print parameters and print. Transfer the image to tracing paper. Cut out the details of the pattern and transfer them to cardboard. If the drawing is not very complicated and all the parts are glued end-to-end, you can immediately print it on cardboard.
Step 3
Choose pieces of leather by color Any type of this material is suitable for applique, but it is better if the pieces do not differ too much in thickness. Cut out the pieces to the template. It is better to do this with a sharp boot knife, placing some unnecessary board.
Step 4
Compose based on, that is, the cover of the folder. Mark the position of the parts with a ballpoint pen. Apply glue to the backs of the leather elements according to the instructions. The instructions must be read carefully, because in some cases it is necessary to let the glue dry, and only after that press the parts together. In any case, lubricate the parts, not the base. The adhesive layer should be continuous and as even as possible. Place the parts and place them under the press. Leather is a fairly flexible material and usually does not need to be smoothed out. Step 5
You can also decorate the folder with a cut applique. Choose a large piece of leather in a contrasting color. Cut a rectangle out of it to fit the folder. Draw a pattern and cut along the contour.
