Smoking is a dirty habit, and not only for your health, skin and teeth, but also for your home. If you smoke all over the house, there will be ash and burn marks everywhere. It is better to have a special place for ash in order to keep the house and furniture clean. Make a wooden ashtray yourself, it will look better than cheap store ashtrays.

In order to make a wooden ashtray, you will need:

- a square piece of hardwood measuring 12, 5x12, 5 cm and 1 cm thick;

- 4 pieces of hardwood 11.5 cm long, 1 cm thick and 1 cm wide;

- wood glue;

- sandpaper;

- mordant for wood;

- brush.

1. Apply glue to the top edges of a 12.5x12.5cm piece of wood. Glue each of the 4 pieces that form the edges of the ashtray to each side of the square piece. Each of the edge pieces should overlap the edge of the adjacent side of the square piece. Apply a small amount of glue to the end of each piece of wood that forms an edge to glue them together. Let the glue dry for 4 hours.

2. Using sandpaper, remove excess dried glue and sharp edges of the ashtray. Buff the wood until smooth.

3. Apply wood stain with a brush. Apply the stain in an even layer, brushing back and forth. Leave to dry and apply another coat of mordant. Let the ashtray dry overnight.
