Limestone is the oldest rock on Earth. It originated many millions of years ago at the bottom of the oceans that covered the surface of the planet. The main constituent of limestone is calcium.

Step 1
You can use the old-fashioned method to mine a small limestone slab. Find a small rock exit out of the ground.
Step 2
Take a shovel and clear the prey area as much as possible. Use a scrap to form a crack in the limestone slab and pry the edge of the slab. Try to lift it up. Limestone is deposited in layers, so it is possible to lift a small plate of it.
Step 3
Remove the limestone plate from the place of occurrence, process it. Limestone can be cut with a conventional saw. To soften it, douse it with water.
Step 4
Limestone is mined in open pits using an explosive method. To organize production, first open the deposits, removing layers of earth, clay and substandard limestone from them with bulldozers.
Step 5
Then drill holes along the entire production edge and place explosives. Directional blasts break off huge layers of limestone from the deposit, which are loaded onto dump trucks by excavators and transported to the processing site.
Recultivate the spent quarry with previously excavated soil and substandard rock. Then sow and plant with beneficial herbs and plants.
Step 6
This method of limestone mining is typical for large deposits. Small deposits are developed by other, non-explosive methods. In such deposits, limestone is taken out in ready-made rectangular blocks due to the creation of contour slots. This technology is called bar development and is based on the creation of special cuts in the limestone massif, perpendicular to natural fractures. The work is carried out using stone cutting machines and excavators. The technology of bar production is good in that the removed blocks are easy to transport and handle.
