Tamtam became famous in Europe thanks to the ancient African tribes. Today it enjoys wide popularity. First of all, you can enjoy its frightening and at the same time, reverent sound in films, the plot of which reveals various ethnic themes. In general, the sound of the tom-tam is slightly muffled, but quite piercing.
Instructions
Step 1
It is customary to refer tamtams to the musical classification of gongs. This small "family" allows you to extract original and mesmerizing sound for listeners. It is no secret that the gong was treated with great care at all times. It is an ancient musical instrument that was invented in ancient China. It is made of an alloy close to bronze. However, the ancient masters kept the secret of making a gong a secret for many centuries. This musical instrument is usually referred to as metal idiophones. Playing on it allows you to endow the viewer with an ominous low tone, the timbre of which generates multiple sound waves, which, moving away and growing, create the impression of a ubiquitous sound mass.
Step 2
The external characteristics of the instrument are by no means intricate: it is a flat metal striking surface, which is suspended in a vertical state, inside a special frame. The frame has small legs. To extract sound, you need to hit the tom-tom with a mallet, the tip of which is made of soft compressed material.
Step 3
When choosing tomtoms, pay attention to the uniformity of the disc metal. It is very important that the disc is cast evenly, only "centrifugal" thinning of the walls is allowed: when the metal in the center of the tom-tam is thinner than at the edges. It is extremely difficult to work on such an instrument, but its sound is multifaceted.
Step 4
The disc should have straight edges, bent to the same width of the curb. On both sides, the curb must have non-torn holes for fastening. The lashing chain is usually made of the same material as the disc.
Step 5
The frame does not really matter, it is only important that it is excluded from touching it with the disc.
Step 6
As mentioned above, the gong is often used in various small and large orchestras. It is noteworthy that this musical instrument is one of the leading sources of sound in ensembles that perform ethnic compositions, as well as accompaniments to theatrical and operatic works. There and there, unlike the traditional gong, it has a relatively small size - up to 80 centimeters in diameter. The self-sufficiency of the instrument lies precisely in the fact that it produces sounds thanks to the materials from which it is made (as a rule, it is an alloy of tin or copper).
Step 7
However, in the minds of the common man, the tomtam was entrenched in the form of the national drums of African tribes. In fact, each such drum has its own name, but if you decide to choose a "tomtam" drum, then pay attention to the body, which should be made exclusively of natural wood or dense bamboo of the same thickness, as well as the material of the "heart »- the percussion part of the drum. Usually this is finely dressed leather, the quality of which is indicated by its even color without inclusions and strong tension on the base.
Step 8
Drums "tamtams" have 2 "hearts", and therefore inspect both - or rather (wide) and lower.
Step 9
It happens that the drum has a waist, i.e. the body narrows in the center and expands towards the bottom. The waist should be tied with natural coarse thread, which gives a "thick" sound. It is not easy to remove or break the thread; there should be no gap between the thread and the body.
