In order to create a music album, you will need a lot of music - at least an hour of pure sound. As a rule, this hour consists of several (from four to fifteen) completed musical compositions, but this is not the main thing.

Step 1

First and foremost, this is an idea that will link several (at least eight) different pieces of music into one whole. In essence, this is the main thing - to build a meaningful and understandable drama without additional comments. There should be, in addition to "script", another, as it is called, "emotional" drama, with a precisely calculated peak of emotional impact - a culmination (which will burn to be "quiet"), with precisely calculated one or two emotional waves of growth, and although would be one wave of recession after the climax. But in any case, the primary idea is the relationship, which must be formulated in no more than five or six words; this wording - at least for the duration of the work on the album - will become its "working title".

Step 2

The second stage is what is called “technical assembly” of works into an album, that is, building a sequence of works in the form of a rough recording. It will be best if an experienced arranger and sound engineer are already involved in the work at this stage. The fact is that now you need, as sound engineers say, “to catch the sound as a whole,” that is, to find a common and uniform acoustic image for all works. And most importantly, the logic of the development of this particular acoustic image. Therefore, a composer-arranger is needed - so that, if necessary, adjustments to the instrumentation are made, it may be necessary to rewrite some parts, playing them a little differently. Therefore, a sound engineer is needed - his task is to record (or re-record) works, bearing in mind the future acoustic image. From this stage until the release of the finished album, the sound engineer is the main one.

As a result of the "technical assembly" there should be a rough recording of the album as a whole, plus two to five more tracks in reserve, if any part of the album for one reason or another does not fit into the idea.

Step 3

The third stage: when the "technical assembly" is made, the final decision is made about which compositions in what sequence will be included in the album. Then comes the stage of "mastering". That is, processing the audio recording so that it ultimately meets the standards of the recording industry. For CD or DVD audio, these standards are different, so the project's sound engineer will use different processing algorithms for different purposes.

As a result, you get the so-called "master recording", which will subsequently be replicated. The album is actually ready; you just have very little to do: create a cover design and the design of the disc itself in typographic quality, after which the master record and design files are sent for replication.
