The soul sings - it's great. But what if the soul sings in English? Even writing a song in your native language is not easy, but here you need to combine knowledge of a foreign language, knowledge of music, a sense of rhythm, the ability to play a musical instrument … There is something to break your head over.

Step 1
First, decide what your song will be: just the creativity of an amateur, which, most likely, will be appreciated only by friends and close acquaintances, or are you going to go out with it "in people"? Maybe you are going to fight for a place in the sun at a contest like Eurovision? If you compose for yourself, then you are a free artist, not limited by any boundaries. Write how you want and what you want. But if you need to participate in some kind of commercial project, then remember: you must not only express your individuality, but also write something that will appeal to the bulk of the audience. Think about what your target audience is, what style of music is closer to them, and start from this.
Step 2
The next important point is knowledge of the English language. Again, if the song is created for a narrow circle, then you can tackle the lyrics boldly, even if you don't know the language well. But if your potential audience is not limited to friends, then in the absence of good knowledge and "a sense of the language" it is better to entrust the writing of the text to a professional. It is better if this professional is not a technical translator, but a master of artistic words or even a poet who already has some experience in creating poetic texts in English.
If you rely on your own strength and write yourself, then in no case should you first compose in Russian and then translate into English. Write immediately in English. Of course, judges at the competition or judges represented by friends may not pay attention to some shortcomings of your English, but it's better to play it safe.
Step 3
Create as you like: either put music on words, or write words on already composed music. If you are not a solo performer, if you are performing with a group, then you can put the music on the shoulders of the person who understands it more, while you write the words. If possible, do not take everything upon yourself: in some ways you are a genius, in others you are an amateur. So calm down your pride if it looks up and take care of the division of labor.
