Hoya is an evergreen plant native to India and southern China with a fragile stem, dense dark green leaves and white umbrella flowers. This plant can reach a length of about 6 meters. Consider the basic rules for caring for a hoya at home.

Hoya soil

The ideal substrate for hoya will be soil in a ratio of 2: 1: 2: 1/2: 1/2 of leafy soil, peat, turf, sand and vermiculite. The soil for growing this plant must be air permeable and sufficiently loose. Hoya can grow in the same pot for a long time. It is necessary to feed the plant once every 2 weeks with mineral fertilizers.

Hoya transplant

It is necessary to transplant and cut hoya once every 2-3 years. Choose two hoyi pots slightly larger than the previous one, prepare the soil substrate and place the flower in the pot, on the bottom of which you need to lay out drainage from expanded clay or stones. Also remember to prune your plant to remove long, non-flowering shoots.

Hoya lighting

This plant needs a bright, rich color for development and flowering, but direct sunlight can cause burns, so place hoya pots on the east and west windows.

Lack of light can cause the flower to stop growing and not bloom. Hoya also does not like drafts. During the period of active flowering, the flower pot should not be rearranged, otherwise the buds may fall off.

Hoya watering

In the summer and winter periods, watering is different: in the summer it is necessary to water once every 3 days so that the top layer does not dry out; in winter - once every 10 days, while carefully monitoring the temperature in the room in which the hoya is kept, and do not let the soil in the pot dry out.

Water for irrigation should be used soft, settled, and you can also add a small amount of citric acid to it. The flower can be sprayed, also wipe its stem and leaves.

Hoya temperature

In summer, the ideal temperature will be 23-25 degrees, in winter 14-16.

Hoya breeding

This flower propagates in two ways: cuttings and seeds.

After the hoya has faded, find seeds in the pods of the plants that must be collected fresh and then dried.

Prepare a seedbed consisting of sand, leafy soil, and a little moss.

Hoya emerges from seeds in a fairly short time, if a humid microclimate is maintained, and the flower will also be light and warm enough. After your crops have gained strength, they can be transplanted into a separate pot.

In order to propagate hoya by cuttings, it is necessary to cut off a shoot containing at least 2 leaves, then root them in water and plant them in the soil of sand and peat in equal proportions.

If the temperature when keeping the cuttings is about 20 degrees, then the roots will appear within 10 days. The plant can then be planted in a separate pot.

Thus, caring for a hoya at home is not so difficult, and if you follow these simple rules, you can enjoy the flowering of a beautiful liana in your apartment.
