Crocheting a hat usually starts at the top of the head, with the first small circular row. Further work will depend on the chosen model. The general appearance of the finished product depends on how you start knitting the bottom. A beginner needlewoman needs to master the implementation of two main types of top of a headdress - for a model with a rounded shape and with a flat bottom (beret, skullcap, hat).

Step 1
If you are new to pattern making, find a ready-made pattern for crocheting a hat and specify the required size. Start working on the headdress with 3 air loops. They must be closed in a circle using a connecting post and six single crochet in a circle. In this case, the knitted fabric will turn out to be quite dense.
Step 2
The beginning of a light hat with a mesh surface will be not three, but five loops; make three loops to climb to the next row and complete twelve double crochets in a circle.
Step 3
Continue to knit the bottom of the hat, adding six (if you knit in single crochet) or twelve (if crochet) columns in each circular row. Do not forget to carry out lifting eyes when moving to the next row.
Step 4
To get a flat bottom of the hat (for example, for a beret), add loops in this sequence. First divide the bottom of the headgear into six (twelve) identical wedges (according to the number of original columns), then add one column at the end of each row. To do this, two new ones are immediately knitted from the bow of the lower column. Thus, you will complete the top of the headdress of the desired size.
Step 5
Try to start knitting a rounded beanie. For it, you need to make a circle with a diameter of about eight to ten centimeters in circular rows.
Step 6
This will be followed by gradual, uniform decrements of the columns - the product will begin to round out. At the beginning or middle of every second circular row, do not knit 6-7 stitches.
Step 7
When the beginning of the headdress - its bottom - is knitted, continue working according to the pattern of a particular model.
