In order to draw the main character of the story by N. V. Gogol "Taras Bulba", it is necessary to imagine what the representatives of the Cossacks looked like in the first half of the 17th century. The image of this hero did not have a real prototype and was collective.
Instructions
Step 1
Sketch the man in pencil. Keep in mind that in the 17th century, people looked older than they were. As for the age of Taras Bulba, it can be assumed that he was about 40, since he had 2 sons who managed to graduate from the Kiev Academy, where the boys were sent at the age of 12. According to the story, "their healthy faces were covered with the first fluff of hair that had not yet been touched by a razor."
Step 2
Draw a long mustache and forelock. This hairstyle is typical for the Cossacks who lived on the territory of modern Ukraine in the 17th century. Gogol does not indicate in his story whether Taras Bulba was gray-haired, so when coloring the picture you can choose the hair color yourself. Give preference to light brown or black shades, it is unlikely that the Zaporozhye Cossack could be red.
Step 3
Draw Taras Bulba's robe. Cossacks of the 17th century, who lived in Zaporozhye, wore long loose trousers with a sewn-in lace. They were often sewn from red or blue material. A thin caftan beshmet was put on the body, the right one covered the left one, it was fastened on the chest with hooks or ribbons. Draw a kereya - this is a kind of outer caftan worn in the cool season. Usually it was sewn from ordinary cloth, its cut, as a rule, is wider than that of beshmet. Gogol writes that the Kazakin (outerwear) was "scarlet, cloth as bright as fire."
Step 4
Draw decorative elements on the clothes. Finish the kerei sleeves with wide cuffs, draw a lace along the collar. At the belt, you can draw a tobacco pouch, often they were embroidered with a cross or beads. Also, the Cossacks wore wide embroidered belts, they were tied over clothing. The story contains lines dedicated to weapons: “chased Turkish pistols were pushed into the belt; the saber clanged at the legs."
Step 5
Draw a headdress. In the 17th century, the Cossacks in Zaporozhye wore cylindrical fur hats trimmed with scarlet cloth or brocade, according to Gogol, the sons of Taras Bulba "were good under black lamb hats with a gold top." The story does not say about the color of the father's headdress, perhaps he had a similar one. These hats are not quite similar to modern hats, since they had a sharp top and were of different heights.
