A knitted scarf is one of the first products that beginner needlewomen undertake to make. When the work is almost finished, it becomes necessary to close the last row. To prevent knitting from unraveling, the loops can be fixed with a straight or stretching pigtail.

Instructions
Step 1
A straight braid is an easy way to close the loops. Sometimes such a pigtail is made using a crochet hook, but you can do with two knitting needles on which the scarf was knitted. In order to start closing the loops, insert the right, free at the beginning of the work, knitting needle into the first and second knitting loops, which hangs on the left knitting needle.
Step 2
Pick up the working thread with your right knitting needle and pull it through the two outermost loops, being careful not to pull the thread together. As a result, you will have one loop on the right knitting needle. Slip this loop over the left knitting needle.
Step 3
Insert the right knitting needle again into the two outer loops from the left knitting needle, pull the working thread through them, and return the resulting loop from the right knitting needle to the left. In this way, knit the entire last row of the scarf.
Step 4
When you have the last loop left, cut the working thread about eight centimeters from knitting, thread it into the remaining loop and tighten the resulting knot. If you are going to decorate the edge of the scarf with a fringe, hide the end of the working thread in it.
Step 5
For a more elastic edge than that produced by closing the loops with a straight braid, secure the last row of the scarf with a stretch braid. This method is useful if a volumetric pattern is knitted on the product. To start closing the row, remove the hem loop from the left knitting needle to the right knitting needle.
Step 6
Work the next stitch on the left knitting needle as expected. As a result, there will be two loops on the right knitting needle, edging and knitted.
Step 7
Pull the knitted loop through the hem. To do this, insert the left knitting needle into the hem stitch on the right knitting needle. Pull the just knitted loop through this loop with the right knitting needle.
Step 8
Knit the next loop from the left knitting needle again as required by the pattern. Insert the left knitting needle into the loop that now takes the place of the hem on the right knitting needle. Use the right knitting needle to pull the loop you just knitted through the loop where the left knitting needle was inserted.
Step 9
Close the entire row, cut and secure the working thread in the same way as in a flat pigtail.
