Rave is a subculture and one of the most popular forms of electronic music that emerged in the 90s. The ravers held private parties, which gradually became very popular with young people. Such discos were considered a symbol of freedom, and the participants sometimes found out about their place and time a few minutes before the start of the event.
The history of the rave and the first ravers
The first raves appeared almost simultaneously in several countries - Great Britain, Germany and Russia, but their homeland is London, where such a trend as "acid house" first appeared. It happened between 1988 and 1991. Music, which was called "acidic", rapidly joined the youth circles and became a substitute for rock and roll. The ravers could be distinguished from the crowd by their bright and conspicuous clothing.
If the first raves were closed to outsiders and only the “elite” knew about them, then in the 2000s this direction of electronic music became a real subculture. Discos were held not only openly and accompanied by numerous announcements in the press and on the radio, but also gathered a global number of young people - over 25,000 people. In Russia, the most famous rave is still KaZantip.
The most popular tracks at raves were songs by bands such as Scooter, The Prodigy, U96 and The Shamen. Against the background of musical trends existing in the 90s, these groups were considered to be a kind of pioneers of the subculture.
The current position of the rave
Raves were considered the main events in the lives of most young people and professional DJs. In a broad sense, raves can be called a musical direction that combines such genres as trance, electro, drum and bass, acid house and hardstyle. At the moment, the concept of "ravers" is used extremely rarely. Now these directions exist independently, and those who were previously called ravers are now called "clubbers".
Throughout the history of the existence of the rave, the most popular resting place for fans of freedom is considered to be a disco, which was first called "KaZantip" and was held on the cape of the same name in Crimea. Later, the popularity of this place increased so much that the event received a new name - "Republic of KaZantip" and moved to the territory of Evpatoria.
Similar global rave parties can be called "Orbit" in Moscow and "Tsekh", "Pirate station", "Sausage shop" in St. Petersburg. It was here that the latest events took place, which combined all areas of electronic music. At the moment, similar parties gather no less number of rave supporters, but each of them, as a rule, is distinguished by a more limited assortment of musical compositions performed.
