Determining the amount of fabric required is easy. If the width of the canvas is 110-150 cm (depending on the size and length of the sleeve), it is enough to purchase 1 length. Measure it like this - put the beginning of the measuring tape to the top point of the shoulder, lower it down through the chest to the desired length. Remember this number, add 3.5 cm to it (1 for the shoulder seam, and 2.5 for the hem of the bottom). That is how much fabric you need to purchase.
Straight - a dress with a loose fit. It is not fitted, so there is no need to sew a zipper in the back or on the side, but darts are required. They can be lateral or run from the shoulder to the top of the chest. Since there will be no clasp, make the neckline large enough so that you can freely remove the product through it. The neckline can be round, diamond-shaped, square.
How to cut a dress
The pattern of a small straight dress consists of a front and a back. If the model is with a sleeve, this part is also required. To save fabric, fold it almost in half. The width of the smaller canvas (which is on top) is equal to the width of the largest place in the part of the shelf (front), plus 1 cm of the seam allowance.
Align the middle vertical line of the shelf pattern with the fold of the fabric (the fabric is folded with the right sides), pin it with pins. For beginner seamstresses, it is better to outline the contours of the part on the fabric with chalk or soap. Those who are already familiar with this science can immediately cut out the shelf, leaving 1 cm allowances for the seam and 2.5 cm for the hem of the fabric. Don't forget to move your darts.
Put the back to the place of the fold, also aligning. If it is cut-off, do not forget to leave 1 cm for the allowance and in the middle. Attach a sleeve detail to the folded fabric. Cut out the right and left.
How to sew a dress
If the back has two pieces, sew them in the middle. Fold the back and shelf parts right sides. Stitch the sides. If the fabric is knitted, silk, immediately process the seams. If the canvas does not wrinkle, you can do this after the dress has been completely sewn. Close the shoulder seams.
Sew on the sleeves, fold the bottom over, topstitch it. Sew the sleeves into the armhole. If not, process the armhole with a welt. With it, the neckline is also processed. For this, a bias tape is suitable, which you will cut out of the remaining fabric diagonally. You can attach the neckline, armholes to the fabric, outline these details and cut out a 2 cm wide facing. First, fold it and the main part with the front sides, make a seam with a width of 0.5-0.7 cm, iron it out. Then the tape is turned inside out on the front side, applied to the wrong side of the main fabric and grinded.
At the end, the dress is hemmed, the seams are processed, and the finished product is ironed.
