Partial or complete change of the background of the picture is one of the necessary operations when creating a collage. Photoshop's editor tools let you do this in a variety of ways. The choice of tools suitable for replacing the background depends on the photo being edited and the result you want to get.
It is necessary
- - Photoshop program;
- - the photo;
- - a file with a new background.
Instructions
Step 1
Load the image into Photoshop using the Open option of the File menu. Make the photo editable by using the Layer from Background option in the New group from the File menu.
Step 2
Insert a picture with a new background into your document. To avoid unnecessary actions, use the Place option on the File menu. You can adjust the size of the background with the frame that appears around the image added to the file in this way.
Step 3
If you need to get a combination of two background images, change the blend mode of the top layer from Normal to one that will give you the result you are comfortable with. Modes from Darken to Linear Burn will darken the picture. If you need to lighten the photo, use the modes from Lighten to Linear Dodge. The Overlay mode is suitable for overlaying textures.
Step 4
When changing the background by changing the blending mode of one of the layers, the object in the image was also changed. This can be corrected with a layer mask. Using the Reveal All option found in the Layer Mask group of the Layer menu, add a mask to the top layer and paint it with black over the shape you want to remove the overlay from. For working with a mask, the Brush tool is suitable.
Step 5
To completely change the background of the photo, move the picture with the new background under the photo using the Send Backward option of the Arrange group of the Layer menu or with the mouse. Add a mask to the image layer. If the photo was taken on a solid background, select the background with the Magic Wand tool. Click on the mask and fill the selection with black using the Paint Bucket tool in Foreground Color mode. The desired mode can be selected from the list in the settings panel, which is located under the main menu.
Step 6
If the photo was taken against a multi-colored background and you can't select it in one click, you can try to separate it using one of the color channels. Select in the Channels palette the channel in which the object in the image differs from the background as much as possible. Use the Duplicate Channel option from the context menu to create a copy of this channel.
Step 7
Use the Brightness / Contrast or Curves option in the Adjustments group of the Image menu to increase the contrast of the image so that the foreground object is completely white and the background is black. If the image to be selected is dark, use the Invert option from the same group. Load the selection by applying the Load Selection option of the Select menu. Select the name of the edited channel as the source.
Step 8
Highlight the RGB channel to colorize the image. Going to the layers palette, add a mask to the layer with the image using the Add layer mask button. If there are remnants of the old background in the picture, correct the mask.
Step 9
If necessary, edit the photo by opening the settings using the Hue / Saturation option in the Adjustments group. The subject in the photo should not be out of tune with the new background.
Step 10
