Step 1
Examine the body of a dragonfly. It is quite long and consists of several segments that are clearly visible. Therefore, to begin with, draw a center line on the sheet, thereby defining the position of the body of the dragonfly. It can be anything, but vertical or oblique is preferred. Set aside on the centerline a segment equal to the length of the head, torso and "tail" combined. Determine the proportions of these three parts. The longest is the lower part, it is almost equal to the head and body. The head makes up about a third of the upper torso. Determine the ratio of the length and thickness of the dragonfly's body. Pay attention to the fact that the three main parts are approximately the same in thickness, but the "tail" first widens a little, and then narrows.
Step 2
Having marked out the ratios, proceed to drawing the individual parts. Draw a round head, upper and lower torso. Draw the eyes on the head - in a dragonfly they are quite large and round, protruding slightly on the sides. Her whiskers are not as noticeable as in other insects, and her legs are invisible in flight, so you can not draw them.
Step 3
Take a close look at where the dragonfly's wings grow from. Both pairs grow from the upper torso. The front wings start almost from the head. The wingspan is approximately equal to the body length of the dragonfly itself, together with the head and tail. The wings are rather narrow. Very delicate patterns can be seen on them.
Step 4
It is best to paint a dragonfly with watercolors. Transparent watercolor paint very well conveys the transparency of the wings of this amazing insect. You can draw a dragonfly against the sky or next to a flower. Her body is dark, and the wings can be made slightly bluish or pinkish, or you can use several colors and make them iridescent.
