The word "rebus" came to us from the Latin "rebus", which means "thing", "object" or "with the help of things." A rebus is understood as a riddle, depicted precisely with the help of various drawings, letters, numbers and signs. Moreover, both one word and an expression, or even a whole sentence, can be conceived. Making puzzles yourself can be even more fun than guessing ready-made ones. But for the correct rebus, you need to know a number of rules.

Step 1
If you use a picture when composing a rebus, it must be "deciphered" in the nominative case. For example, if your picture shows a house, it should be deciphered that way, and not “house” or “houses”. Of course, there may be exceptions to this rule, but in this case it is better to discuss this in advance in the rules for your riddle.
Step 2
You can complicate the puzzle by using objects that have different names as a picture. For example, "horse" can also be "horse" or, by depicting the head of a person, you can mean "face".
Step 3
Pictures in puzzles can have both a general and a specific name. For example, if you depicted a bird, both this word and the name of this particular bird - an eagle, a raven, a thrush, etc. can be used as a clue.
Step 4
Use commas. If you put one comma in front of the picture, it will mean that you need to remove the first letter of the hidden word, if a couple of commas, two letters, etc. The same rule applies when you put commas after the picture. For example, draw a mole and put a comma in front of it. The result is the word "mouth".
Step 5
Above (or below) a picture or a word, you can draw crossed out letters, this will mean that these letters need to be removed from the hidden word. For example, draw a wolf, and above it the crossed out letter "k" (or you can complicate the task and draw a crossed out four, this will mean that you need to delete the fourth letter in the word), you get "ox".
Step 6
You can change several letters in the hidden word, for this, the equal sign is used. For example, write the word "strength", and above it "S = P", it turns out - "saw".
Step 7
You can use only a few letters from a long word, then you need to write above it the numbers of the letters you need to solve. For example, write 2, 5, 6 above the crocodile, it turns out "kind".
Step 8
An upside-down drawing means the word must be read backwards. That is, for example, draw a cat, turn it upside down. What word is conceived? That's right, "current".
Step 9
One of the most popular techniques for making puzzles is placing one element of the puzzle relative to another so that you can use the prepositions "in", "above", "under", "y", etc. For example, write a large letter "O" and put the syllable "yes" inside it. The answer to the rebus is "in-oh-yes".
