Many insects are difficult to draw due to the large number of small and varied details. But the caterpillar is not one of them. The image of this animal is easy to compose from simple repeating details.

It is necessary

  • - pencil;
  • - paper;
  • - eraser;
  • - paints.

Instructions

Step 1

There are several ways to depict the body of a caterpillar. For the first option, you need to make a zigzag line from thirteen identical straight lines. The corners between the lines should not be too sharp. Draw circles around the vertices of the corners. Their size should be relatively small, but sufficient so that adjacent circles are slightly in contact with each other.

Step 2

The second method begins by drawing several letters "M", lined up in one line so that the lowest points of the adjacent letters are connected. Draw a second row of Ms in parallel, below the first, but in a mirror image. At the beginning and end of the resulting shape, draw one circle.

Step 3

The first two options for drawing the body of a caterpillar are suitable for children's creativity or for depicting a character in a cartoon style. The third method allows you to draw a caterpillar close to its natural appearance. Draw two slightly curved horizontal lines. Round off the ends of the shape.

Step 4

Divide the caterpillar's body with wavy, perpendicular lines that shouldn't extend beyond the body. Make about twelve similar lines. These will indicate the folds in the track. Round the edges of all fold lines slightly to one side. Try to avoid rigid and straight lines in the formation of the caterpillar's body, as this type of insect is characterized by smooth shapes.

Step 5

If you are drawing a caterpillar as a biological object, pay attention to studying the structure of the insect's head. Draw a small, rounded head capsule with two mandibles. The capsule resembles two apple seeds joined together. Put several small eyes on your head.

Step 6

By drawing a caterpillar as a character, you can let your imagination run wild. Draw large, human-like eyes. Draw an arc under them. If the extreme points of the arc point upward, then you get a smiling caterpillar; if down - sad. Then draw eyebrows above the eyes. They will give the character additional expressiveness.

Step 7

Finish the drawing by adding legs on the underside of the body. You can draw triangular legs under each protruding segment of the caterpillar's body. Or draw three triangular legs at the front end. Then mark four more legs in the middle of the body and one under the tail.
