Artist biography: childhood and adolescence

Tilo Wolff was born on July 10, 1972, he is Cancer by horoscope. Place of birth - Frankfurt am Main. However, the family, which still had the eldest daughter, did not stay in this city for long. And little Tilo moved with his parents to Switzerland. There, Thilo lived and grew up in a German-speaking area that was located near the city of Basel.

Tilo Wolff began to demonstrate his interest in art and music from an early age. In high school, despite being diagnosed with dyslexia, he dabbled in writing: he wrote poetry, novels, plays and short stories. Some of them were published in local magazines and newspapers. Tilo was fascinated by the creation of texts, in his head there was always a lot of images that he wanted to share with others. From childhood, Wolff differed from his peers in his special view of the world. Gradually, this received a way out in his full-fledged work, and in his teenage years it was reflected in his hobbies and appearance.

With an interest in literature, Tilo Wolff was drawn to music as well. He studied at a music school, played the piano and trumpet.

Passion for art very much dominated the life of the growing Tilo. Therefore, having received secondary education at school, he refused to go to college. Instead, the future famous musician has come to grips with the compilation and publication of his own magazine - "Dark Gothic". The first issue was published in 1989. At this stage, Tilo was very fond of dark aesthetics and gloomy romance, which was reflected in his appearance and habits, and then affected his career development. However, the magazine, published with the support of friends and acquaintances, was not widely disseminated and had almost no demand.

An unsuccessful venture with a literary publication did not make Tilo Wolff abandon art. He got a job at a local factory in order to save money and pursue a musical career. Already in 1990, he was able to organize the recording of a demo cassette called Clamor, the design of which he developed himself. Two musical compositions were released on tape: Seele in Not and Requiem. The music turned out to be heavy, and even now these compositions are perceived as very dark and depressing.

The next step in the musical field of the maestro was the creation of his own record label - Hall of Sermon. This was not Tilo's primary dream, but he understood that his music and style would not be in demand by the average record companies. After the release of the first disc, he managed to face criticism and receive a number of tips on how to create. Tilo did not like this, he wanted independence and complete freedom.

1990 was the year when Tilo Wolff formed his group, giving it the name - Lacrimosa.

The first full-fledged concert was played by the gothic group in 1993. The event was held at the Werk II club located in Leipzig. At that time, Tilo Wolff was the only vocalist in the group. He was engaged in the creation of music, wrote lyrics and even played individual musical instruments.

In 1994 Anne Nurmi joined the Lacrimosa group. She became the second constant voice of the team.

In 1995, the album Inferno was released. It took off in record time in many European charts. Thilo Wolff's career has reached a new level.

1996 was designated for the German musician by receiving the Alternative Rock Music Award. During the same period, Thilo took on the role of keyboard player in the group.

In 1999, a very significant and long-awaited event took place for the maestro. The world saw the light of a new disc - Elodia, in the recording of which the London Symphony Orchestra took part. The disc was released by Abbey Road.

The gothic group Lacrimosa continues to exist with success, giving regular concerts literally all over the world. Their style is unchanged, although Tilo is trying to bring some changes and "tasty tricks" to the new albums. The group often visits Russia, arranging sold-out shows in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities.

The work of the German musician was not limited only to the cult band. It is also part of the SnakeSkin project. At one time he tried himself as a manager, working with the Cinema Bizarre team.

In terms of his personal life, Tilo Wolff is very secretive. In the past, there were rumors that between him and Anna was not only friendship, that their union was not just creative.
