Those who are learning to draw should start with simple but interesting objects. You may not be able to master portraits and pictures of animals. But even a novice artist can draw a fish - for example, a catfish.

Instructions
Step 1
Make a pencil sketch first. Catfish looks most beautiful in motion. Draw the curvature of the fish's long body, its beautifully curved tail and long whiskers.
Step 2
Draw an elongated oval to form the base for the catfish head. Divide the oval with a horizontal line and draw three parallel arcs from it, curved to the left and down. This is a sketch of the body of a fish. The arcs should taper towards the end, following the natural curves. Sketch the outlines of the wide tail.
Step 3
You can try a simpler option. Draw an elongated oval tapering towards one end. This is a sketch of the catfish body in a more static position.
Step 4
Take care of drawing the muzzle. Define a slightly open wide mouth, gills and eyes. Put a light highlight in the eye. Carefully draw the whiskers on both sides of the catfish head. Draw the beginning of the dorsal fin as a low ridge.
Step 5
Add two pairs of side fins on either side of the body. In the lower, narrowed part of the body, depict an elongated anal fin. Draw a wide tail made up of two smooth lobes. Apply subtle cross-strokes to the tail and fins.
Step 6
When you finish your work, erase the extra lines, first of all, the working strokes of the base. If you want to leave the sketch in pencil, draw a thicker, more visible line around it. Lightly outline the structure of the fish skin using hatching.
Step 7
If you like the picture in color better, prepare the paints. Think about the background. A blurry, indistinct background, hinting at the river bottom, is suitable for a watercolor drawing. Mix the watercolor on the palette. Cover the leaf with yellowish brown or greenish blue paint. Draw the stones at the bottom with a few points, blur their outlines.
Step 8
Color the catfish. Its body has a greenish-gray tint, its fins and tail are colored in a darker tone. Shade them with thin lines made with the very end of the brush. It is better to apply the finishing touches when the colors of the main drawing are slightly dry.
