Step 1
Determine your voice type before starting any serious singing practice. Otherwise, you run the risk of greatly impairing your vocal abilities by performing exercises and parts that are unsuitable for you. It is best to consult with a teacher when determining a voice, since it is quite difficult to adequately hear oneself from the outside without appropriate singing experience. Even if in the future you plan to practice on your own as an amateur, sign up for one or two sessions with a specialist to determine the timbre of your voice.
Step 2
Find out the tessitouristic endurance of your voice. This concept means how much a particular note pitch suits you. This endurance is determined by performing works with different tessitations - the pitch of notes in relation to your vocal capabilities. Pick it yourself or ask the teacher to pick you several pieces with a wide range of notes used. If you have not yet learned how to read sheet music, you can sing using the recordings of existing performers to imitate, and also focus on the musical accompaniment and the pitch of the notes in it. But even if you were able to perform the whole piece, it does not mean that all the notes in it are suitable for your voice. An experienced teacher will be able to mark the moments when you are unable to sing in a normal voice and switch to falsetto. Also, you yourself must monitor the range in which you are more comfortable singing and you have to strain your vocal cords less.

Find out the timbre of your voice. Timbre is a qualitative characteristic of a voice, which is given according to the subjective perception of the listener. For one type of voice, for example, a tenor, different timbres are possible - sonorous, soft, thick. Depending on this, the subtypes of voices are distinguished - lyric, dramatic, characteristic tenor. From the set of indicators, your music teacher will be able to conclude what type of voice you have.
