Chess is the oldest logic-based game. Despite the abundance of rules and tricky situations, it is not difficult to learn how to play it. First you need to learn how all the pieces move.

Step 1
Usually the game of chess begins with pawn moves - the front pieces. A pawn can only move forward, one square, but the very first move can be made two squares. Beats a pawn diagonally. These figures are the most insignificant, but at the end of the game their role increases. A pawn that reaches the last horizontal line can turn into any piece of the highest rank.
Step 2
A rook is a piece on the edge of the field. The rook moves vertically and diagonally to an arbitrary number of squares. The figure can move both backward and forward. The rook is not very popular in chess games, but it often serves as an auxiliary piece.
Step 3
The knight is located next to the rook. He walks with the letter "G" - first two fields vertically or horizontally, and then one more, perpendicular to the first two. The knight is one of the most used pieces. Its unpredictable move and the ability to jump over other pieces make the knight indispensable when planning difficult maneuvers.
Step 4
The bishop, or officer, is the closest piece to the king and queen. The bishop moves diagonally across an unlimited number of squares. Two bishops complement each other: one of them moves only along white squares during the game, and the other moves along black squares. Together with the knight, the bishop is used in most chess puzzles.
Step 5
The queen or queen is one of the main chess pieces. Usually, players turn their pawns, which have reached the last rank, into queens. This figure is distinguished by great maneuverability - it walks vertically, horizontally and diagonally. The loss of a queen in most cases predetermines the outcome of a chess game, although exceptions are possible from all the rules.
Step 6
The king is the main chess piece, for which there is a struggle throughout the whole game. However, endowed with such a huge role, the king can only move one square - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The king can also beat pieces, but only those that are within his reach.
