It so happens that a thing found in a store fits both in size and color, of excellent quality and is sold at a good price, but it has one drawback - long sleeves. Is it worth buying such a new outfit or is it better to put this outfit aside? Take a closer look at the bottom of the sleeve. If it is smooth, without cuts and slots, then removing the excess length will not be difficult even for a beginner. Otherwise, it is more reasonable to carry the thing in the atelier or not to take it at all, since such a sleeve is shortened from above, and this is only up to professionals.
It is necessary
- - scissors;
- - sharpened chalk or soap;
- - sewing machine and matching threads;
- - adhesive material, for example, non-woven or serpyanka;
- - iron;
- - tailor's pins and hand needle.
Instructions
Step 1
Try on the product again, stand up straight and fasten with all the buttons. Using sharpened chalk or soap, mark the sleeve length you want. The label can be duplicated for fidelity with a tailor's pin.
Step 2
Carefully open the seam in the sleeve lining; a hole 12-15 cm long will be enough for you. Through the resulting cuts, turn the sleeves inside out and carefully so as not to damage the material, rip the seam of the connection of the bottom of the sleeve with the lining. Use a warm iron to smooth the seams in the main fabric and lining.
Step 3
Transfer the chalk mark to the inside of the sleeve and draw a line in straight lines, measuring the same amount from the edge. Below, by about 2 cm, draw a line for attaching the lining and another 1 cm down - a cutting line. Repeat the same steps with the second sleeve and measure their length again from the shoulder seam to the last line - the size should be the same. Cut off the unnecessary part with scissors. Cut exactly the same amount from the sleeve lining. Slightly iron the bottom of the sleeve along the new length.
Step 4
Cut out two strips from the adhesive material, 2-2.5 cm wide, and the length corresponding to the width of the bottom of the sleeve. Use a hot iron to glue the damp strips to the bottom of the sleeve from the fold to the edge. Restore the lining line with chalk and baste the edge of the sleeve lining along it, aligning the seams. Before making a line on a typewriter, turn out the sleeve together with the lining and measure again; make sure that the lining is not twisted.
Step 5
If done correctly, turn the sleeves inside out again and sew a stitch on the typewriter. Pull out the basting thread. Attach the allowance to the elbow and bottom seams of the sleeve using a hand-held needle. Turn the sleeves inside out and stitch the holes in the lining with a pintuck seam. Turning the sleeve inside out, iron the edge of the lining - there should be a small influx at the bottom, about 1 cm.
