In the past few years, the theme of the end of the world, which is due to occur on the Mayan calendar in 2012, has become more and more popular. Scientific articles, books and films are made about this. However, more recently, American archaeologists have discovered the ancient astronomical tables of this civilization, in which there is no mention of 2012 and the end of the world.
The misconception that the world will end on December 23, 2012 is based on an inscription that was found in the late 20th century in the Mexican state of Tabasco. On the 7th century monument, it was told about the life of the local ruler and it was mentioned that this date will be the end of the 13th peak, which will be accompanied by the arrival of a new god. There was simply no information that the end of the world or some kind of catastrophe would happen in 2012. The spread of the myth was facilitated by many popular books and articles that misinterpreted the records of the calendar of the ancient Indians.
According to the Mayan calendar, time is divided into certain cycles, replacing each other. And the end of one cycle, the end of which falls on December 23, 2012, absolutely does not mean any catastrophe. The calendars of this ancient civilization can count off time millions and trillions of years ahead, which is confirmed by an important new find by American archaeologists.
More recently, in the ruins of one of the cities located in the north of Guatemala and belonging to the Mayan civilization, they discovered inscriptions about astronomical phenomena based on the phases of the moon and containing complex mathematical calculations. The recordings were made on one of the walls of a small room.
These astronomical tables were dated by scientists to 814 AD, while the previous calendar dates back to 1200. They very accurately describe the solar and lunar cycles, the movements of bright stars and, according to scientists, they were most likely used in the culture of the ancient people for rituals.
In the new, most ancient calendar, there is no information about the end of the world in the near future. On the contrary, the calculations presented there cover a period exceeding 2012 by 6 thousand years ahead. According to scientists, the Mayan calendar based on cycles cannot end at all.
