It is necessary

  • - the cloth;
  • - scissors;
  • - threads;
  • - a needle;
  • - sewing machine.

Instructions

Step 1

Sketch the design you want to sew as an applique. Try to use the simplest possible shapes if you are just starting out with appliqués. If the drawing consists of several pieces superimposed on each other, make a sketch for each of the parts.

Step 2

Find the fabric for the applique. Any material will do, it all depends on your tasks. Think carefully about the color scheme of the applique, apply each piece of material to the base fabric to make sure they match. To prevent sprinkling of the fabric, starch it or treat it with gelatin.

Step 3

Pin the applique pattern to the fabric with needles and cut out the blanks. If the edges of the part need to be folded, add 0.5-1 cm to the appliqué size.

Step 4

To make the appliqué volumetric, cut out the lining from a thin padding polyester or any thick fabric. It will need to be placed under the applique just before sewing. You can add volume to the whole picture, or to a separate part of it.

Step 5

If the fabric needs to be folded over to keep it from unraveling, sew the hem by hand with a needle forward seam. Then iron the fabric thoroughly.

Step 6

Sew the appliqué to the fabric. You can do it manually with an inconspicuous seam. To do this, grab the part of the pattern that went to the fold with a needle. Make sure that the thread tension is even so that the fabric does not warp.

Step 7

You can also use a zigzag stitch to sew on the perimeter appliqué. At the same time, lay the line so that the seam reaches the edge of the pattern and protrudes beyond it for a millimeter or two.

Step 8

Additionally, a ribbon to match the fabric or in a contrasting color will help to decorate the applique. Half of its width should be located around the perimeter of the applique on the front side, and fold the rest of the piece to the wrong side. Then sew on the decoration on a typewriter.

Step 9

You can hide the seam on the applique using a cord or beads, beads, bugles, sequins. Sew them over the seam of the appliqué by hand.
