When making homemade products with your own hands, it is often necessary to connect various parts together. These can be toys, crafts of your own design, and even jewelry. For reliable fastening of elements of a particular design, a pin connection can be used. It will take some training and skill to place the pin correctly.
It is necessary
- - pin;
- - parts to be connected;
- - pliers;
- - tweezers;
- - vice;
- - glue or other binder.
Instructions
Step 1
Select the type of pin you will be using. The pin itself is a conical or cylindrical part, which in most cases does not carry significant loads. Depending on the material of the connected parts, their shape and size, the pins can be of a wide variety of designs: with a countersunk head, threaded, notched and even with an internal thread.
Step 2
Match the shape of the pin. Tapered fasteners are more versatile, which can be used repeatedly without reducing the accuracy of the relative position of the parts. Cylindrical pins are used somewhat less frequently. Rifled pins are often used to attach awards and orders.
Step 3
Fasten the parts to be connected in the desired position. To do this, use a small vise, a clamp, or simply clamp the workpiece with pliers and fix their handles with adhesive tape.
Step 4
Make holes in the parts into which the pin will be inserted. To do this, you can use a drill (when it comes to metal products) or an awl heated on fire, if the pin should be installed in a plastic or wood part.
Step 5
Insert a pre-prepared pin into the drilled hole. In this case, it can be simply fitted with an interference fit, or screwed in. In some cases, the pin is inserted into the part, followed by fixing it with special bonding compounds. The choice of the type of connection is determined by the dimensions of the parts and the expected load that the connection will bear. For example, if you need to plant a decorative bead on a post, the connection can be quite simple.
Step 6
On the free end of the inserted pin, slide the second element that you want to connect to the first part. When planting, it is important to accurately align both parts. Use pliers to push the pin tighter.
