Dora and the Lost City is a new adventure film perfect for family viewing. It tells the story of a brave young girl who went with friends on an exciting journey, where she has to find missing parents and touch the mystery of the ancient Inca civilization. Dora's adventures will start in the Russian box office in the first half of August.
History of creation and plot
The film "Dora and the Lost City" is not an independent project, but a continuation of the educational animated series "Dora the Explorer", which was shown in 2000-2014 by the American children's channel Nickelodeon. The main character - a seven-year-old Latin girl in each episode went in search of adventure in the company of her faithful friend - a monkey named Slipper. Dora's companion received such an unusual nickname because of his favorite red shoes, in which he invariably appeared on the screen. Also, the young traveler was helped by magical items - a Backpack and a Map, presented by her parents. Well, the difficulties were repaired by a cunning fox named Rogue.
Little viewers of the cartoon, sitting in front of the TV, helped Dora, completing simple tasks - jumping, finding something on the screen, repeating loudly. At the same time, they studied numbers, English and rules of conduct in a playful way. By the way, the popular series has been periodically broadcast on Russian television since 2005. In the domestic version, it is called "Dasha the traveler".
In 2017, the creators of the project thought about releasing a full-length feature film, which will show the matured Dora, who has reached adolescence. Filming began in Australia in August 2018 and was completed by the end of the year. The director's chair was taken by Briton James Bobin, who previously directed two parts of "The Muppets" and "Alice Through the Looking Glass".
According to the plots, the young and fearless Dora spent her childhood in the jungle, where her parents were engaged in research. But the girl faced a real struggle for survival not in the wild, but in an ordinary high school. In the new reality, she is surrounded by envy, ridicule, difficulties in communicating with peers. And to top these problems, Dora learns of the mysterious disappearance of her parents.
Fortunately, the main character is not one of those who give up under the onslaught of problems. She manages to assemble a peer team of old and new friends who inspire Dora to go with them in search of their parents. In addition, on the journey, the girl is accompanied by her beloved pet Slipper. Far from civilization, adolescents are waiting for exciting adventures and a clash with the eerie secrets of an ancient civilization.
Actors, Trailer, Premiere
Isabella Moner, 17, starred in Dora and the Lost City. Like the cartoon character, the girl has Latin roots: her mother is from Peru. Since Dora and her friends in the plot find themselves in the ancient city of Machu Picchu, Moner specially learned the Quechua language, which was used hundreds of years ago by the indigenous peoples in the highlands of South America. She even called her aunt in Peru for advice on certain phrases. The young actress is extremely proud of the fact that her mother's home country will finally be revealed in detail in a major Hollywood project. Also, in some scenes, viewers will see Dora as a child performed by Madeline Miranda.
The parents of the main character were played by Michael Peña and Eva Longoria, her cousin Diego - Jeffrey Wahlberg. Among Dora's other relatives, Adriana Barras's grandmother and Pia Miller's aunt will be shown. Nicholas Kumbe will appear in the film as a high school student, Randy, in love with the character of Isabella Moner. In addition, viewers will see the Inca princess performed by K'Orianca Kilcher on the screen. In the project there are also offscreen roles, inherited by such eminent actors as Benicio Del Toro and Danny Trejo. They voiced the rogue fox and the shoe the monkey.
