The collar that fits around the neck is the main distinguishing feature of the classic sweater model. These clothes provide excellent protection from the cold, which is why they are found in almost every wardrobe. Usually the cut line in such things has a round shape, and the collar itself is tied with an elastic band. It can be in the form of a dense double rack, a clamp or a pipe clamp (a fashionable trend of recent times). You can make a piece of the cut separately, or make it one-piece knitted.

Step 1
Carefully check the pattern of the future sweater so that the collar is of the required shape and size. It is recommended to knit a control piece and clarify the density of knitting, as well as the required number of loops to complete the cut line and the collar itself.

Tie the back, then the front of the sweater. Carefully follow the lines of the armholes, shoulder bevels and the neckline by gradually decreasing the loops.

Remove the open cutout loops on auxiliary knitting needles or pins, and close the final shoulder loops.
Step 4
Connect the finished cut pieces and sew knit seams along the sides of the garment and along the shoulder line. Sew on the right and left sleeves. Only after assembling the main parts of the clothes should you start knitting the collar.

You can knit a sweater collar on circular knitting needles. To do this, you need to dial the loops at the extreme edge of the neck. From them, begin to knit an elastic band (classic - 1x1 or 2x2 - or another variety of it to your taste).

Trying on a loose sweater as you work on the collar will help you define the right shape for the piece. By experimenting with height, you can get different options. The simplest collar is a stand that ends under the chin (its height is about 10 cm). A more popular option is a double stand that folds out and folds in half. Finally, you can make a high collar with a fluffy rubber band or a pipe - it will simultaneously act as a hood.

If you have decided on the height of the sweater collar, then carefully close the loops of the last row. You must carefully pull out the closable loops (you can use a thicker knitting needle for this) - otherwise the final row of work will be tight and inelastic, and you will not pull the clothes over your head.
Step 8
Some needlewomen prefer to make the collar of the sweater as a separate piece, and only then sew it to the neckline. This option has its advantages. If you sew the finished collar to the neck with the final row down, then the top of the part turns out to be looser and more elastic.
Step 9
Correct the width of the collar and cast on the straight knitting needles. Work in straight and back rows until you reach the desired height. Finish the last row and connect the collar to the main piece with a stitching stitch.
