The Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) is held annually in Moscow at the end of June and lasts about ten days. The president of the show is Nikita Sergeevich Mikhalkov (since 1997). The main competition involves about twelve full-length films, which are judged by a professional jury. The main prize of the film festival is the Golden Saint George statuette.
Every year, various foreign film actors, who participate in the work of the jury and present their new films, visit Moscow as part of the MIFF. In 2012, guests from all over the world walked along the festival path, including the famous director Tim Burton. Together with Timur Bekmambetov, they presented the film President Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Tinj Krishnan, the director of the English film "Dregs", which received the main prize of the Moscow International Film Festival, and the actress who played the main role, Kendise Reith, presented their picture at the Khudozhestvenny cinema.
Chinese director Chen Li, actress Chun-Ling Shi and producer Li Rui presented the film of the main competition program "Cherry on a Pomegranate Tree". The plot of the picture is not simple, despite the lyrical title, and illuminates the problem of the struggle for power between men and women in the Chinese countryside.
In the "Perspectives" competition, the public was presented with the German painting "Doctor Ketel". The press conference was attended by the film's producer and director Linus de Paoli, as well as Anna de Paoli, the director's wife and co-producer. In addition, the Dutch painting "170HZ" by Jost van Ginkel was presented within the framework of this competition. The film was presented at the Moscow International Film Festival by the leading role, actress Gaite Jansen.
A surprise for animation lovers was the film "The Apostle" by the Spanish director Fernando Cortiso. However, the cartoon turned out to be completely childish. Frightening plasticine dolls and a mystical plot made it the most suitable for an adult audience. The film was presented by producer Isabelle Rae, director Fernando Cortiso and actors whose voices speak the dolls: Carlos Blanco, Isabel Blanco and Jacobo Rey.
The film is co-produced by Finland and Russia. Aki Louhimies' film "The Naked Bay" is a film. In addition to the director, the actress Lenna Kuurmaa and the producers Pauli and Penti also came to Russia.
Another co-production film presented at the Moscow International Film Festival was “Lonely Island”, filmed by Latvia, Estonia and Belarus. The press conference was attended by the film's director Peeter Simm, actors Olga Vodchits, Enda Lehtmets, Valeria Arlanova, Gert Raudsel, Dmitry Sheleg.
A press conference was also held by renowned Chinese photojournalist and filmmaker Yongfan. His retrospective was presented under the title "Colors of the Soul". Young actresses Teresa Qiong and Xuan Zhu, who were present at the conference, admitted that Yongfan became, in fact, their godfather in creativity.
And of course, the 34th Moscow International Film Festival would not have been so brilliant and bright without the charming French actress Catherine Deneuve, who honored him with her presence. She came to present the closing film Beloved, directed by Christophe Honore, in which she starred.
