Choosing a headdress for a child often gives parents a lot of trouble. Buying a hat without your child, you run the risk of missing the size. Otherwise, when the child is with you, it is unlikely that he will obediently wait until you find the appropriate option. The result is wasted money and beautiful but useless things. However, you can easily avoid such difficulties by sewing hats for the child with your own hands. The advantages of this option are obvious: financial savings and the ability to create unique and original models.

It is necessary

  • - sewing machine;
  • - threads, needles, scissors, crayons, pins, pencil, ruler;
  • - knitted fabric, fleece, knitted fabric, cotton stretch;
  • - yarn, beads, decorative ornaments;
  • - soft lace, braid, lace.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the fabric for work, to do this, first wash and dry it so that it shrinks. After that, steam with an iron and lay out on a flat surface. The choice of material depends on the time of year in which it is supposed to be worn. For summer, chintz, woven fabric, cotton and thin linen are suitable; for warm autumn-spring - knitwear, fleece; for winter - knitted fabric, lined fur.

Step 2

As a template, use an old baby's hat with a simple cut (a thin knitted two-piece model, one-stitched, and tight-fitting to the head). Attach the template to the wrong side of the cotton fabric, folded in half, and trace the outline, leaving an allowance of 0.5 cm. For the overcast, cut a 4 cm wide strip equal to the length of the headgear.

Step 3

Fold the two beanie pieces right side in. Sew the curved seam on a typewriter, then overlock the edge with an overlock (ideally using a rug, overlock sewing machine).

Step 4

Sew the side seam of the facing by folding the piece in half. Attach the piping to the bottom edge of the cap so that the right side of the fabric of the two pieces is inside. Pin along the perimeter with tailor's pins. After that, carefully sew the fabric, gradually removing the needles. Finish the edge of the resulting seam, as well as the free edge of the seam.

Step 5

Unscrew the piping inside the headgear. Iron the seam on the wrong side with an iron. Sweep the hem of the cap by hand along the right side. This is so that you do not accidentally stretch the fabric on a typewriter when performing decorative stitching. After the basting, you can safely perform the seam, stepping back 0.5 cm from the edge. The stitching can be wavy, zigzag or double denim.

Step 6

Decorate with fabric flowers, embellishments, or appliqués. Secure the elements with mono thread or rubber glue. The use of brooches with needles is not advisable.

Step 7

Light summer panama is sewn by analogy with the above method. The difference is that instead of trimming, gathered lace is attached along the bottom edge. To prevent the panama from flying off, sew a butt seam with stretch threads or sew on a soft, thin elastic band. Such a hat can be decorated with an applique made of butterflies and flowers.

Step 8

To make a warm headdress for a child, use soft dense fabrics - fleece, terry cloth, thick knitted fabric or plush. Measure the volume of the baby's head with a measuring tape. For example, it will be 40 cm. Using chalk and a ruler, draw a rectangle on the fabric with a 20 cm tire, and make the length arbitrary. There are options here: a short hat, a hat with ears, an elongated cap. Add seam allowances, plus a 1.5 cm margin, so your child can comfortably and comfortably carry the thick fabric. Open the details.

Step 9

Sew side and top seams and overlock. Trim the piping and stitch it to the cap. Sew on padded laces or drawstrings on both sides so that the garment can be tied under the chin. Decorate the hat with mohair pom poms, a felt applique, or a ribbon tied at the corners of the top hem.
