Playing with a pick is a necessary skill in the arsenal of every musician. It not only allows you to extract a bright and rich sound from the instrument, but is also a must when playing electric and bass guitars.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a pick according to your instrument and playing style. This process is as individual as the choice of clothing, and depends largely on taste and habit. There is only one important general criterion here - rigidity. A soft pick can be used when playing nylon strings, but it is strongly discouraged for acoustic and especially bass guitars. It is better to prefer medium or hard specimens.
Step 2
Hone your strikes up and down. It is important that when playing with a pick, there is no difference between striking the string in different directions. For some, this does not cause difficulties, but for many novice guitarists, due to the uneven movement of the hand, the blow from the bottom up turns out to be a little more shuffling and therefore worse sounding. As soon as you manage to achieve the correct effect, you can start playing in combat - but not before.
Step 3
Fight with a pick differs little from usual. The kicks are exactly the same, but you have to worry about getting them right in relation to the guitar body. For soft plastics, this practically does not matter, but if you bring the hard pick too close to the body, you risk breaking the strings. Try to touch the string only with the tip of the plastic - this will not affect the sound, but will reduce the likelihood of the pick falling out of your hand.
Step 4
Start learning tablature and brute force. It is important that you perfectly know the melody and not be distracted by remembering the next note - then the learning will go faster. Moreover, pay attention to the fact that there are no plucking in the tablature - simultaneous sound production on strings that are far from each other. An ideal option for beginners will be the song of the Torba-na-Kruche group "Unrealizable" (the link to the video and chords is nearby). The main principle of performance is that, having established a chord, the soloist hits the strings with a pick in this order: 5-4-3-2-1-2-3-4. At first glance, it seems - nothing complicated, and when playing with finger technique it really is. However, playing with a pick will take some time.
