Playing with a pick is very popular among guitarists, as a small piece of plastic allows you to extract a much more juicy and bright sound from the instrument. However, this approach can cause some discomfort, because the usual five fingers, at first glance, provide much greater opportunities for the game.

It is necessary

  • -guitar;
  • -mediator;
  • -fight for the song.

Instructions

Step 1

Find the right pick. Because it is inexpensive (30-50 rubles), and is lost quite often, then purchase several at once, and over time choose from the purchased the most convenient one for you personally. The role is played, first of all, by rigidity: a softer pick is guaranteed not to break the string, but it requires you to bring your hand close enough to the body and creates a characteristic crackle when playing. The hard version has the opposite properties: the strings need to be touched only with the very edge of the plastic (take your hand farther from the body) and play not too intensely, in addition, no extra crackling will be created. There are also intermediate versions of the mediator, which are the "golden mean".

Step 2

When playing with a pick, your wrist should be stationary. The up and down strokes are made solely by the movement of the elbow joint: this will allow the pressure to be more evenly distributed over the strings. When playing with the brush, you can pick up the string and break it.

Step 3

The fight is selected individually for each song. In chords and tablatures, it is written as "Down - down - up - up - down - up" or by icons: "V - V ^ - ^ v ^". In this case, a small "v" means "additional", a weak beat, and a large one, on the contrary, is the main one, emphasizing a strong sound. As a rule, an upward blow is not strong.

Step 4

The fight when playing with a pick is not as clearly divided into beats as when playing with a finger technique. The sound is produced, as a rule, from all strings at once, and the beat is determined only by the number of hand movements. For example, the classic "yard" fight 6- (1 + 2 + 3) -5- (1 + 2 + 3) with the help of a mediator can no longer be obtained.

Step 5

If it is necessary to refine the rhythm of the song, then it is worth striking more precise. A strong beat, in this case, will be indicated by hitting all the strings, or only the top two. The weak, in turn, is recouped by a sliding movement along the lower three of strings, creating a bright, but at the same time, minor sound background. However, this technique should be used only in certain fragments of a song, otherwise the meaning of playing with a pick is lost.
