Atlas is a factory-made material used to produce shiny, smooth and delicate fabrics. They are already making wedding dresses or bed linen from it. Due to the fact that this fabric is easy to tear, it is important to follow the recommendations for sewing satin items.

Instructions
Step 1
Choose the right type of atlas for your work, as this material has different characteristics and quality levels. If you are just starting out, then acetate atlas is for you, as it is quite cheap and serves as an excellent material for teaching sewing. But if you need to do more serious work, such as a wedding dress, then you will need a more expensive type of this fabric, namely polyester or silk satin. This is the best material for sewing this kind of thing.
Step 2
Choose from the light or dull side of the fabric, the one you want to see on the right side, or the one you want to see on the visible side. Next, take all measurements with the tailor's chalk or gel pen on the back of the fabric, as it is very difficult to completely wash the marks from the satin surface.
Step 3
Pull out your fabric and stick it onto a paper surface for handling slippery material. Do your best to keep the edges of the fabric in line with the edges of the table. Also make sure that you are not pressing against a slightly overhanging fabric, as the folds of satin fabric will be extremely difficult (and sometimes impossible) to remove.
Step 4
Use muslin or other fabric as a substitute for accurate garment measurements. This is so that you do not have to make changes to the prepared satin fabric, which quickly becomes dirty. When sewing, use knitting needles along the seams and hem of the fabric so as not to warp the satin surface with sewing tools, the marks from which will be very noticeable on the shiny surface of the product.
Step 5
Take a seam impression after stitching to unite the ties. Then squeeze the open seams. In both cases, use the punch-through technique that you used to prepare the atlas. This is necessary in order not to damage the finished product with which you are working.
