Patchwork is one of the most popular types of needlework. Patchwork craftswomen use this technique to do a variety of things, from decorative pillowcases and bedspreads to the most complex plot panels. The success of the work largely depends on the materials and tools. However, if you were engaged in sewing or embroidery, you will find something in your casket.

Instructions

Step 1

To get everything you need for patchwork, you just need to visit two stores. Of course, if you already have a sewing machine. Products from shreds can also be sewn by hand, but this is a long and laborious process, and the seam even from very experienced craftswomen is not very beautiful. In a store that sells sewing goods, you will find fabrics, threads and needles.

Step 2

Any sewing machine is suitable, as long as it is not too capricious and gives a good line. In this sense, old cars are even more convenient.

Step 3

Purchase at least two sets of needles for hand and machine sewing. The needles in both cases need to be selected according to the thickness of the fabric, so it is better that they are always at hand. You will need some more tailor's ball-headed pins.

Step 4

As for the scissors, you will need two types. For cutting, it is better to use ordinary tailor's scissors. It is possible that you will have to unpick the stitching, for which you need small scissors with sharp ends. For some types of work, curly scissors may be needed, so it is better if they are also on hand.

Step 5

A very important point is the purchase of threads. Their choice depends on which patches you will be sewing from. Cotton threads are an almost universal material; they can be used to sew not only cotton and woolen fabrics, but also some types of mixed and synthetic ones. These threads give the smoothest stitching. In addition, they are almost not confused, which is especially important for novice needlewomen who are just mastering the sewing machine. Synthetic fabrics can be sewn with nylon and polyester threads. Such threads are most often found in stores. For silk, it is better to take silk threads.

Step 6

For templates, you need thin, hard cardboard. You will also need the most common drawing tools - a ruler or pencil. Instead of a pencil, you can use a ballpoint pen. To cut pieces of sewing on the fabric, you will need tailor's chalk, a piece of soap, a colored or white pencil. You can also use a special washable marker (these are most often sold in the same place as sewing goods). Colored carbon paper is worse in this case, but if you are going to sew complex compositions, you will need it to cut some fragments.

Step 7

As for the shreds, in some craft stores you can find ready-made, cut from a template. But in principle, any piece of fabric is suitable, from which you can cut fragments of the desired shape. Some needlewomen buy unpresentable things made from material of suitable quality in second-hand stores, rip them up and cut them into shreds. In any case, the fabric must be washed before work so that it shrinks immediately. At the same time, you will check the durability of the color.
