Even a novice knitter can knit a winter hat for a newborn - just choose a beautiful warm woolen yarn, a simple model and make the right calculations. It doesn't take long to work on an item of this small size, and only a small amount of material is required. In case of failure, the product can be quickly disbanded and reworked. To protect your baby from wind and frost, make a double hat - from the inner and outer parts.

- - 5 stocking needles (No. 2, 5 and 3, 5);
- - 2 straight needles # 2 or 2, 5;

Instructions
Step 1
Try to knit a comfortable hat for a newborn: with an elastic band, a round shape, with ears and ties. Start by calculating the rim line: measure the circumference of the baby's head above the line of his eyebrows and the convex part of the back of the head. Add 1 cm for the freedom of fit - do not forget that the product will be thick, double. As a sample, use a ready-made knitted cap "over the head" of the child - in the process, he will help you do the necessary fittings.
Step 2
Tie a knitting pattern and calculate its density. So you figure out the required number of loops that you need to dial. Distribute the dialed loops on 4 stocking needles and make a 1x1 elastic in circular rows (constantly alternate one knit loop with one purl loop). You should have about 6-8 cm of elastic (this is the future hem of the double plank of the bottom).
Step 3
Continue to work on the baby's hat with the selected embossed or multicolored pattern, or simply do the hosiery (knit only the front loops in each circular row). At the end of the elastic, switch to larger knitting needles (for example, from # 2, 5 to # 3, 5).
Step 4
Try on a loose hat for a baby or a reference cap to adjust the required height of the product. So that the top of the cap is neatly rounded (and not assembled in large assemblies), at a distance of about 8 cm from the crown, begin to gradually decrease the loops. To cut the fabric by one loop, you will need to knit two adjacent thread bows together. Decrease at equal intervals in every second circular row, cutting no more than 8 loops at a time.
Step 5
When the hat is tied to the desired height, close the remaining loops and tighten them tightly with thread. Using a crochet hook, pull the cut off ponytail to the wrong side of the product. In front of you is the upper part of a winter hat for a newborn.
Step 6
Turn the outer part of the product inside out and start making the inner cap. For convenience, it is recommended to switch to straight knitting needles, and then sew a connecting knit stitch.
Step 7
Cast on the stitches from the wrong side of the outer headgear on the last row of the elastic strap. The yarn for the inner cap should be thinner than the outer one. It's good to take children's acrylic - it is elastic and pleasant to wear. The number of loops dialed should be a couple of three less than they were when the front side of the double product was sewn.
Step 8
Tie the bottom hat in straight and back rows with the front stitch (in the front rows - front loops, in the back rows - purl). Use the top as a reference. Finish the work 2, 5-3 cm from the crown and carefully sew the open loops to the canvas of the outer part. Sew the finished hat lining.
Step 9
On the inside of the garment, cast on the loops for the ears of the desired width and knit them up to about 3 cm in height, folding the main working yarn in two layers. To round off every detail, make subtractions on each side in every second row. In total, you must subtract 8 times along the loop in this way:
- make an edge loop;
- remove one loop as if it were front;
- Pull the next front loop through the removed one.
Step 10
You just have to make the final touches, and the children's knitted hat is ready. Fold the elastic band in half, wrap it inside the garment and sew with neat stitches with the same color thread. Make ties at the ends of the ears - they can be crocheted from an air chain and one row of simple posts. Or you can crochet bundles of soft acrylic yarn and braid them into thin pigtails. Make knots and trim the ends of the threads.
