Passifloras are long-lived and fast-growing vines that have gained well-deserved popularity on window sills as the most beautiful of exotic flowers. Of all the exotics, they are the most suitable for growing at home.
Instructions
Step 1
Passiflora are very unpretentious exotic plants that, with proper care, consistently bloom and bear fruit. To grow passionflower at home, you can find the seeds and plant them, or buy an adult plant from a flower shop. There is a good option to turn to the help of a floricultural forum, which currently exist in every city: there, with florists, you can agree on the cutting of a plant for almost nothing. A good option for those who did not fit all the others is to visit large supermarkets, whose vegetable departments often offer the exotic fruit passionfruit or grenadilla (granadila). This fruit is nothing more than the fruit of passion flower, and if you extract and plant its seeds, the result will be no worse, and in many cases even better than with purchased seeds. Varietal passionflower cannot be grown like that; most often, edible passionflower grows from store fruits. Its flower is blue and modest in comparison with varietal size - only 8-15 cm in diameter.
Step 2
Passionflower is cultivated as a climbing plant, it is wound on an arc over a pot or let it go along specially stretched threads. In winter, it is better to keep it cool, it is more suitable for glazed heated loggias. Covering it from frost, it can be left to winter in an unheated one. Passionflower will bloom in the presence of good lighting, grown from seeds - for 5-7 years, the cuttings bloom immediately after rooting, if the conditions of detention suit them. When buying a plant in a store, it is better to choose without buds or the plant on which it has not yet opened. Blooming when moving to a new place can throw off all the flowers and even get sick from this double stress.
Step 3
In order for passionflower to grow well and bloom a lot, it needs some conditions of detention. First of all, it is the sun, of which the more the better. In the shade and partial shade, a tropical beauty will grow badly, but it will not bloom at all. High temperature and direct rays are not suitable for this plant: there will be burns on the leaves. On the south side, it is better to put it not on the windowsill, but on the floor under it - this will be enough, moreover, it is cooler on the floor. Requires regular watering and loose, nutritious soil. Passionflower does not like peat - when choosing a soil for it, this must be remembered. In winter, watering is limited, not watering more than once a week. The air humidity should be high, if this is not possible, you can spray the plant from a spray bottle in the morning and evening. The plant needs to be pruned and replanted every spring for new shoots to grow and more flowers to grow. At the same time, the pot is chosen small so that the entire growth of the vine does not concentrate on the root.
